Thread: ATC Altimeter calls at airports.

  1. #1

Default ATC Altimeter calls at airports.

Am I the only one that receives the stated altimeter by ATC to be 2092 for all airports? (I think that is the number I receive.)

Perhaps I have something set wrong?

Be nice if I could receive the correct altimeter readings when ready to set it down.

    Thanks,

    Jim

I think the setting depends if you have real weather set up. If its just global and the standard that is what you are going to get.
I did a flight from upstate ny to halifax and the altimeter setting changed along the route

Yes the game default is 29.92. You will always get this unless you change the weather either manually, by download or some other weather setting program.

    OK. Thanks for your replies.

Will have to use real weather. I thought the sim would pick up the information from the airport database.

    Thanks again,

    Jim

Just Go World > Weather > Click the Download Real Weather button and it will get it all for you. This is in FS2002...you don't need any special program. You can also tick a box on the way, which makes it download the whole world's upper winds as well!

Now, if you Save the flight and call it something like "Startup with Weather", you can call up that flight any time and you will have varying altimeter settings all over the world :-)

One other thing related to my previous post...If you want your "Startup with weather" flight to have a light wind, straight down the runway where you are, then just GO World > Weather and change the LOCAL wind to the runway heading and say 1 or 2 knots. Don't change the GLOBAL wind though. Do all this before you Save the flight :-)

Actually, what I've started to do is download the real world weather once a day, every day. Then I create a file for each day that is my default aircraft setup with that day's weather. I then archive these files to a zip drive.

It will be fun down the track to fly in the weather we had on this precise day 3 years ago! You never know how long this real world weather will remain downloadable, so I'm getting as much of it as I can now.

    Yes John,

I've been doing something similar. I try to get a few for each Month so that when the server is down, I can just load up one for November or whatever. The servers seem to be down quite often.
