Thread: Back up your progress!

    Default Back up your progress!

Hey, I had a problem once where I couldn't change my view from spot. I tried re installing (didn't need to) and fixed the problem after removing the files below.

SO, I THINK these are the files you need to backup. Somone correct me iff'n I'm wrong. I'm using MS OS 07.

    C:\Users\your name here\Application Data\Microsoft

The files are cameras.cfg and flight.cfg. and ContentErrors.... (not sure if it's necessary to save the ContentErrors file... but i did anyway.

IF you can not see your "Users" folder, you may have to make a change to the files you're able to see (security settings i think).

I've made a LOT of progress and I'd hate to lose it all again as some of the challenges are really quite hard!

The files you describe are the basic configuration settings and data.
    Your career is here:
    C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Flight\Players\someHEXcode('C0BF12FEA2F26E5E')\Career

But you are right, it is a good idea to make a save from time to time of this whole Career folder !

As I understand it, your profile is also saved online. The local version tracks any offline play which is merged with your online career when connected. Still a good idea to back it up I suppose. The age of cloud computing... we may not know where our data lives anymore. — Bob

    You are perfectly right!
"If you play offline, your game progress is saved and your Pilot Profile will
synchronize the next time you sign in with your Games for Windows –
    LIVE profile and password"

If you go to Windows live(xbox) and display your account and then choose ACTIVITY (under SOCIAL in the heading),
you will see your gamerscore (with achievements) online!

I did some more research on this in the forum's.

From the various messages from people who LOST part of their data after reinstalling Flight or installing it on
another system, one can deduce that Flight SAVES your ACHIEVEMENTS (Live Profile/ACtivity) and STATS
(https://microsoftflight.com/en-us/myflight/) in the cloud, but NOT your detailed PROGRESS!

Somebody contacted MS support. Here is the answer he got:
    ---Ms reply---
Your saved data is found in:
    C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Flight\Players
The folders you see in there are the various accounts that you have played Flight on, simply copy those to
a USB drive and you will be good to go.
    Thanks,
    Loki, Microsoft Flight Team.
    ---End Ms reply---

So better make a save from time to time!

So in the event of a catastrophic disaster.... if I save the "career" folder and replace it when something happens, it will start me right back where I left off? The last time, using my method, I was able to fix the "view" issue, however, I LOST all my progress.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

It is also useful to copy your Career folder in order to synchronize multiple PC's from which you play. Otherwise, you will be re-earning all those gold trophies :-)
    i7-3960X at 4.3Ghz, 32GB DDR3-1600, EVGA GTX580 with 3GB, 160GB SSD (OS) + 2TB (Sim and Data)
