Thread: How do I contact the devs?

Default How do I contact the devs?

I want my opinion to reach the Flight devs. I tried Flight today for the first time, only to discover that it does not support TrackIR. What a bunch of idiots. I wrote a short e-mail to send to them, but after scouring their site, I can't find anywhere to send an email to them. I considered sending it to Microsoft.com “technical support,” but I wasn’t convinced that it would reach the right people. I guess I should really try to send it to the Flight accounting team (we all know who calls the shots at Microsoft.) The email I wanted to send is below. Can you guys think of any way to get my gripe to the right people? Thanks guys.

    E-mail I want to send:

I decided to download and try Flight today. I dug out my X52 joystick and TrackIR5, set it all up, downloaded Flight, and started it up. I was extremely surprised to find that Flight does not support TrackIR. That is completely asinine. I immediately uninstalled Flight. You won’t get a penny from me until Flight supports TrackIR, and let’s face it; it’s plainly obvious that money is Microsoft’s only concern. I won’t even touch the freeware without TrackIR support. Get a clue guys; you are alienating your customers.

why would they support TrackIR... I'd rather they support Kinect, same price infinitely better and more useful.

Maybe because it is the 6D motion sensor that most sim aviators/PC gamers have, it gets the job done, and it works with almost anything else that can use 6D tech. But, since the Flight leadership visionary decisions remain lost within the mind of one your attitude is probably not inaccurate.

Bullet, meet other foot. Because they can.

@Paxx. Don't assume everybody has or use TrackIR. I have TrackIR but only use it for combat sims. I don't use it for FSX and X-Plane.
Also the target market is not the enthusiasts who has TrackIR, which is actually an expensive piece of equipment.
There is a workaround. Just go into mouse emulation mode.

@thread starter... Read the interveiw. They mentioned that they already acknowledge the request for TrackIR support. Question is if they will act on it. I doubt.

I never said or assumed "everybody has or use TrackIR". Far more titles, including GTA an oft mentioned title similar to Flights's gaming/market goals, can use Trackir just fine as compared to Kinetic's rather sparse offerings. Flight's decision not to include Trackir support is a step backwards, regardless of the "not the target market" excuse. Making Flight a "Kinetic only for 6D motion tech" title is just more of the walled garden mentality prevalent among Microsoft's corporate goals.

I highly suggest rewording your email to make it more professional and mature sounding. The way it is worded with the gratuitous insults will guarantee it will be filed immediately in the bit-bucket, and not taken seriously.

I know the young lady who reads nearly all of the incoming email, FB posts, and various forum postings She is really very tolerant (more than I would be!), but you would not believe the utter trash she has to wade through every day!
When I get an email that starts out by expressing hope that everyone on the dev team, and their families, die in a plane crash because they didn't put a feature in a piece of entertainment software, I reach the conclusion that the writer's opinion is not valid. I stop reading at that point, and I don't pass that info on to the dev team. If you want us to listen to what you have to say, being reasonably professional/adult about your feedback will ensure that it at least gets heard.

If a good suggestion comes in, we don't disregard it because it came from a simmer. Similarly, if we get 4000 emails from 4000 unique users asking for a feature, we're going to pay attention. I won't guarantee that that gets it into the game, but we're certainly going to talk about it.

You really think they're going to support a compnay that probably already violates their existing patents on Kinect... dream on

    Huh?

Kinect was first launched on November 4, 2010(North America)
NaturalPoint's TrackIR 1, 2DOF, was released in 2001, fully nine years ahead of Kinect.

Every last Track IR unit's release to the public preceded Kinect, including #5. With that in mind I have to ask; What obscure patent would NaturalPoint be violating?

I don't see any reason for MS to not include support for what has become a very popular piece of hardware to many gamers, not just us Flight folks...Don
