Recently finished reading a book I really enjoyed by Barbara Rowell (Flying South: A Pilot's Inner Journey) documenting her 25k mile journey on her Cessna from California down to and across South America. I found her writing on how events shook her confidence as a pilot and how she regained that confidence really interesting.
Also, her coverage on how quickly things can go downhill once a pilot gets shaken is an eye opener (she had a vacuum pump failure above IFR conditions). Sadly, and ironically, she and her husband died this August in a dual prop chartered plane (not flown by her) as it was on final (2 miles from the runway) to their home in Bishop, California.
