If it's freeware give me a download link and i'll have a crack at it.
Incidentally some people were asking about taking off vertically in the comments accompanying this youtube vid-

    And one useful-looking reply was-
"if you use keyboard with Ctrl+1 or Ctrl+3. This way you can reverse the exausts, or you can give the assignement on a flight stick. i forgot to mention that u shoud have low fuel 25 % is good"

    Hi scatterbrain
no it's not freeware , and I had seen that vid but that doesn't work , i have the nozzels in the correct position but the thrust still goes back rather than down
thanks anyway for taking the time to search and reply
    regards

Try angling the nozzles forward slightly to produce a small amount of rear thrust to counterbalance the tendency to roll forward.
I've got a freeware FSX Harrier, I'll take it up later and try a few nozzle settings and get back to you.

EDIT- well I just took my freeware job (an ex-FS2004 effort) up but the whole flight model is krap and unrealistic, so we can't learn much from it, i hadn't flown it for a year and had forgot how bad it was.
The nozzles were linked to the flaps and pointed vertically downwards when full flaps are selected, that gave me a vertical t-off but when I retracted the gear and flaps it started bucking and whirling like a mechanical bull and i'm going to uninstall it.
Your Wilco job must be better than that so your best bet is to ask the company for advice or a refund..

A thread here says you need to have FSUIPC installed, but you said you've already got it, so maybe a new version is needed-

And a guy called 'Chock' posts about the Wilco Harrier at the AvSim forum with screenshots, and doesn't seem to be having any VTOL problems, maybe you could ask him-

    Hello Bryan,

Assuming you have installed it correctly with the original installer, and you are using FSX-SP2 or FSX-Acceleration, a few pointers:

    1. Make sure the green needle in the VTOL display gauge points to appr. 80 degrees.
    2. In the fuel/payload menu, make sure the Gross Weight doesn't exceed 19000 lbs. If it does, dump fuel.
    3. Make sure you don't apply Brakes while trying to do a vertical takeoff. (Parking Brakes are auto-released when you throttle up).

    Still not OK ?

    4. Are you using rudder pedals with toebrakes ?
If so, are they well-calibrated ?
(if the VTOL controller detects any Brakes power left or right, the VTOL control is deactivated).
To make sure there isn't any Brakes input, disabled the toebrakes (if you have them).

    Still not OK ?

    5. Have you installed the latest version of FSUIPC already ?
You can download/install that from Peter Dowson's website; just re-install, no need to re-register or so.
Also, does your FSUIPC work Ok for other functions (since you have registered it) ?

    Still not OK ?

    6. If all fails up to now:
The last (but unlikely) cause can be, that the SimConnect-part of FSX (the functionality that FSUIPC uses to pass commands to FSX), has been corrupted for some reason.
But that's very unlikely, if the other functions of the registered version of FSUIPC DO work correctly.
