Default What an AWESOME "Flight" experience I had tonight!

First, i'd like to thank richlp for taking the time to answer my question about how to start an online MP flight session. He told me how to do it as opposed to suggesting that I read the manual. It was a quick and easy solution and for that I am very appreciative.

Back on topic. I jumped into a session that "Jeff" started (awesome guy). He followed me around for a while and we began chatting. He was very polite... no profanities, no hostile comments etc. I enjoyed his company immensely. After flying around for a while, Jeff thought it would be fun to do a mission (something about a $100 hamburger... LOL... reminds me of the time that a friend of mine flew me to Catalina Island and we got a buffalo burger.) It was expensive, but very tasty... heh.

Anyway, Jeff and I did a canyon run in the biplane. It was really cool. The scenery was great and very smooth (fps wise). After making the run, Jeff and I switched planes (not sure of it's name, but it's the low wing). By this time, another player joined us. I can't remember his name, but he was from Sweden (also a very nice guy). So we all met on a strip of dirt and lined up for the ride. We made the same run that Jeff and i had just made, but this time is was MUCH faster being as how we had a much faster plane (duh)...

I normally fly in the spot view, but this time I chose the cockpit view. Whatta ride! I have a high-end system so even FSX is fairly smooth for me, but Flight is flawless as far as being in high density areas... it's able to maintain smooth fps at all times (can't say the same for FSX... but that's another thread).

I'm really enjoying the challenges of Flight, simple and gratifying.

Although Flight can't really be compared to FSX at this point as it's in it's infancy... but it sure has potential. I will say this, although it bothers me as a consumer that MS chose to remove a lot of features that FSX has.... they are certainly awesome business men because offering the sim for free.... THEN offering optional features for an additional fee... what a great marketing strategy! They're going to make a spit-load of money on this game.

Anyway, I can't wait to see how Flight progresses. Although initially disappointed with flight because I was expecting a FSX progression....I'll admit, it's working it's way into my heart as we speak!

My feelings exactly. I haven't used the online voice aspect yet. I'm a little confused as to how that works. Can you elaborate?
I have had a few interesting encounters, which usually degrade into dogfights. Give a man a biplane and his inner Snoopy comes out! — Bob

I don't know how to use the speech option... so I can't comment on that... though Jeff said it's built into the game so it's available.

I'm not sure I'd be interested in dog fighting anyone, though as you related, some do. Now if they had guns that shot (like MS combat sim) it might be interesting. But just crashing into someone for the sake of crashing ain't my cuppa tea... heh.

So you were communicating by text then? Haven't tried that either.
By dogfighting, I mean trying to get on each other's tail. I hate the children who just try to run into you for fun. There's no skill in that. — Bob

Ya, text. Hard to fly and type when you're flying through a canyon... LOL

    Hi,

    Saw this in the post:
"Flight can't really be compared to FSX at this point as it's in it's infancy"
After running FSX several times in recent days my thought was that as far as flight simulation is concerned FSX can't be compared to Flight.
For today's Aerocache I chose dawn and the Stearman and didn't do much research as to the exact location. It was my intention to simply fly around the harbor checking things out until I stumbled on it. As the sun rose I had the distinct feeling that the humidity was increasing. Never had a feeling like that in FSX.

Well... "Flight" is kind of "happy-go-lucky" game where-as, FSX has the options of making you think.

Humidity increasing ? funny, i tried the demo and i experinced nothing except how it doesnt rival FS9 `s window rain. Placebo effect is what your experiencing. Go ahead support all of the changes to flight simulation, they string you along to buy bits and pieces , why do most things change for the worst.

Speaking of rain, why is it that every positive post made here (and in many other Flight forums) inevitably winds up with at least one person who just wants to "rain on the parade?"

BTW, setting up Flight to use voice instead of text only requires one to have a headset (preferably USB), pluging it in, then configuring it as a secondary sound device.

TAB key in Flight will communicate with everyone in the session at once.
CTRL-TAB will communicate only with those pilots who have their COM1 radio on the same frequency.

I suppose that everything that grows, needs some rain... heh
