Neat looking, but those horizontal (almost) tail fins clear the ground on T.O.'s and landings?

  3. Default

They do, but you are going to have to be pretty careful with pitch control on the ground!

Why are the fins angled downwards anyway? What aerodynamic benefits does that give?

Very interesting. How do you design the flight model for the Mini-IMP ?

Has answers to most questions, the only one it doesn't answer is why anyone would want to build the Model-C with the O200!

Very cool Robert, can't wait. I just checked and the tach on my PL4 is showing 32 hrs, haven't flown much else since I downloaded it. Thanks very much, love the VC. Slowly working on a repaint for it in my spare time - umm, err, invasion stripes? lol

That one is still in the line-up, but it devleoped a scaling issue that was not caught until I got back from the business trip I was on when I started it. I had no way to check it in the sim on the trip. When I got home and finally got a look at it...it's more like a Mega Mustang!
I also have that big plane in my sig that gets worked on from time-to-time.

Edit: I couldn't resist...I fixed the scale issue. Here's what Jim is talking about.

Well actually I had no idea you'd ever started a midget mustang, but I've always wanted one for the sim and I figured with your homebuilder roots you'd be the man for the job . Awesome!!

Just for fun, here's a scan of an old photo I snapped at a homebuilder get-together in Jerome, Idaho approx 1994. I had to do some digging to find this old shot, but the image of that little plane has been burned into my brain since the day I laid eyes on it. I remember it looked like a bullet streaking across the sky when he made a high speed pass on his way out. This is my inspiration for the invasion stripes repaint on the PL4 incidentally, although I've added considerably more red here and there and black & white checkerboards on the bottom of the wings. Unfortunately my polished aluminum skills are currently lacking a bit but I'm working on it .

I've done a lot of interior stuff...It will be a great sight seeing plane. A sailplane view at up to 180 mph!
