I have had X plane 9 for quite some time now, gave it a try, and gave up mostly due to frustration, but now I'd like to give it a concerted effort, one of the things I'd like to know is just how complicated are the default aircraft's autopilots?

no more or less complicated then those found in FSX. Both sims model aircraft and their systems, so the functions are almost identical. The FMS I feel is easier to use in XPlane, as every button is always clickable.
My mistake Razor, thanks for providing clarification. Only recently got back into X-Plane 9, as FSX seems to take issue with my 8400GS![]()
My original draw to XP was the included plane maker. Now, a couple years later, I still don't know just how to use itI love the feeling of flight in XP. For general aviation flying, there is nothing better. And the Blade Element Theory flight model is progressive, all envelopes of flight can be modeled, and it 'feels' right when flying in wind/crap weather. It's the closes I found to when I was flying real Cessna's and Pipers!
Hello !
Default autopilot (like MSFS) and default FMS (LNAV only) are described here:

With add-ons, you get a lot more features.
