Thread: teson1 making the airports dangerous

  1. #11

Default Notam: LPMA closed for repairs

I knew I shouldn't have just jumped into that Learjet parked at GCLP and taken off.
Never flown in that plane before.
But nobody was looking, and the opportunity was just to good to be true.

While the flight went pretty well thanks to some serious use of the autopilot, the landing did bite me hard.
After three go-around I finally got the plane onto the tarmac roughly pointed into the right direction. But I shouldn't have slammed the brakes on contact... I believe the nose wheel collapsed.
Luckily no harm done (to me), but I preferred not to wait for the fire brigade and police rushing out to the wreck.
Now I'm hiding in the bush close to the airport. I need to find a way to get out of here. These guys do look pretty angry.

PS: Seems I have some difficulties differentiating between "dusk" and "dawn".
I've realised I've flown all flights except the first one at the wrong time of day.
That flight to Madeira was in pitch black night.
But I believe I've understood now. Dawn = morning, dusk = evening... gotta remember that till the next flight...

Hang in there Mr. teson1 ... I have notified an old friend to bring you food and drink for as long as needed.

Supposed to be a 747 departing out of there soon for Lisbon.

You'll find an extra airline pilot's uniform in the storage bin beside the cargo parking area.

I loved the approach pattern(s) tesson1. That was a valiant attempt and landing and at night! Whew!
A nose gear and a few scratches on the nose, and a walk away is a successful flight in my hand book.

I know what you mean about the Learjet. I tone the gain on the yoke down to about 85 to 90% when I fly it and the Beechcrafts as well.
Flying them is like saddle breaking a three year old colt that was just brough in off the Montana open range. I have a elbow bone to prove that.

Don't worry salt and friends will get you out safely. Mike will attest to that!

I just got a message! Head up on top of the hill, they're waiting for you!

    Friends,
I don't know how you've done it, but not only did you fly in all the provisions a man needs in the wild (what a party we had !), but also did you organise a first-class trip out for me in the left seat.
Seems you know the right people not only in Gibraltar.
    Thanks!
Uneventful flight. The passengers seem to have highly appreciated it judging from their enthusiastic screams.

Default Flights 6 and 7: LPPT - LXGB - LEGR

    Flights without incidents this time.

LPPT - LXGB was a good training for following procedures with quite a few clouds around.
The airport was visible well before the MAP though, so no problem.

Enjoyed the view of the rock of Gibraltar on the climb out. Then again quite a few clouds and turbulence.
Clouds lifted though before the airport.
I guess the descent to 3000 ft after MGA 10 DME was too fast. Did have a little scare when hills looming above left and right could just be seen in the falling night, and the road lights looked scarily close.

    Interesting flights again.
    Thanks.

Default Flight 8 LFMN LFLJ Heading for a programmed a crash-landing at Courchevel

As anticipated, beautiful mountain flight without issue, through my backyard.

    As anticipated, crashed at Courchevel.

I'm heading over to the Cape-to-Cape race at SOH for now, to at least start there before everybody else has arrived, but once I've finished that one (say, in 6 months ) I'll come back and finish this series!
I've said it already, but I'll say it again. Excellent event, selection of very interesting destinations, and perfect preparation and documentation.

    Well done, Mike!
