Then what on earth is it supposed to be? I endured the opening sequence and initial missions and made it to free flight. What I experienced left me extremely disappointed.
One of my favorite hobbies has been gutted and repackaged in hopes of appealing to a broader audience while leaving me with a game, not a simulator by any stretch, at least my definition of the word, that has zero appeal.
Given all that, are you surprised by my visceral reaction to Flight?
I've been in the hobby since day one some 30 years ago. I have been making planes for the sim the last ten years of that time. I knew a year ago that my ability to do that for Flight would not exist, and at that point for me I knew that I have no interest in Flight. Amazingly, the Sun still rose the next day and all was well.
I'm guessing it will show up tomorrow right on schedule.
This is the best console flying simulation ever. Some of the frustrating things I find with FSX is gone with Flight- for instance the interface is wonderful. I would have been all over this in the years that I was console gaming, and didn't own a moderately priced gaming rig. I can see this title doing pretty well when it finally launches on xbox, but unfortunately, I don't see their target demographic spending the kind of cheese to support a deep and diverse addon market for it (of course that is relative to what we are already accustomed to).
But I still prefer the game aspect of PilotWings- it's still the best console flying game. And it never asked me for another penny... ahh the good ol' days.
Even xplane spends a lot of resources on non standard gaming machines- ipad, android, iphone, etc. I wonder if this is the beginning of the end for the "golden age" of flight simming as we love it? Or, perhaps in the future 3d modeling will get cheaper and cheaper, and maybe entire 3d worlds will be readily available- then we may have renewed investments into 'hard core' flight sims? Also, I don't see the aerospace industry porting over to "gaming" sims any time soon, so maybe they will be leading the future?
PS-coconut bra? ummm. At least MS got it right when they portray the hottie using you for your A5 to drop her off at her fancy party. But don't worry, she'll have Sven take her home by Monday morning.

I got through the first sequence, why won't that Synergies chick shut up?? I hated the A5. I tried to switch to the Stearman, it asked me to sign up for Windows live to get it? No thanks. I think I saw several attempts to get me to buy stuff. Finally got to the Free Flight. I have to say the water was nice, the trees were nice, and when I couldn't stand it any more I crashed into a tree. Nice crash effects, tumbling, dirt, ambulance.
My response to Flight. I can't put it in words. They spent a couple years and who knows how much money on FS11 and Train Sim 2, then threw them away. Spent another couple years and untold dollars stripping away FS down to nothing, and gave us this Flight with operant conditioning http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operant_conditioning , advertising, a carrot and stick to get more, plus bring your Microbucks.
I care about the loss of MS FS, but MS is out of touch with their customers. We ask for just the simple things, FS11/12, 64 bit, fully multithreaded, DX11/12, put Howard on the next simulated train out of town, get Spencer his old job back at Burger King, but MS doesn't listen to us.
I was talking today to my retired airline pilot friend, he's loaning me a book from Jeppesen on airport plates, SIDs STARS, and procedures for each airport. I'd be embarrassed to say that I flew Flight.
This video about sums it up.

So are there any anti-Flight members who are eating their words and downloading Flight now?
Asking for FS11 is not a simple thing.
It's more likely the other way around. They plan to make FS11 with a better engine and they achieved that. But since they need to earn money in their project now, supposedly for further development, they release it in a very basic state. If they were to continue to develop FS11 it wouldn't be released until about 3 to 5 more years since a lot of stuff has to be remade.
I'm willing to contribute to the effort, I plan to buy probably all of the PMDG aircraft. I have already purchased six FSX Gold's, probably Win 7 or 8, but after that MS has no other products I'm interested in buying. I'm not the one who is being uncooperative, I'm the customer, and there are many like me, we told MS plainly in ordinary English what we would like what we would pay for. However Howard and Spencer worked busily inside a bubble ignoring our purchase requests and came up with a flying game no one likes. How is that our fault? They could have rebuilt the encyclopedic flight simulator after updating the engine. A fresh install of FSX has only a dozen or so gauges, that doesn't seem like a difficult strain on resources. They did not want to give us our Flight Simulator because in their own words they "made a bet" that they could reduce FS down to its' lowest elements and sell off each part piece by piece, and then dumb down the experience so anyone could participate. They don't even have flaps! Their bet is based on greed. As vonbobo has said, we asked for a steak and they gave us the McD's Happy Meal, and they expect us to pay top dollar for it. Howard's semantics don't bother me at all, it is what they have actually done that bothers me.

Buying PMDG does not contribute to the MS coffers. Hehe.
I agree about your disappointment with regards to the model and share the same sentiments. But DLC is how the gaming world works right now.
Been simming since FS98 almost on a daily basis, bought every one MS put out. Running FSX Acceleration right now and my only question....what the hell have they gone and done?
