    Hey guys,

Thanks again for the responses. By no means am I "blaming" the FlightSim store anymore than they are "blaming" me. I simply bought a product which I have not been able to get, and thus far all the advice that has been given to me has been applied with no results, so you can imagine my confusion and frustration.

As a matter of working with people and customers, it does seem odd that no warning or statement is issued about connection speeds or required download unwrappers for files of several GB's. As someone who isn't a complete "bozo" with computers and having worked at Intel, I was not even aware that my fairly updated computer could not unwrap a large zip file. Perhaps this is in their FAQ but I did not see it...

I also checked on my "Purchased Orders" and found the two files I have purchased, but did not see any sort of partitioning of the massive 4.21GB giant.

So it sounds like the recommendation is to get the latest version of WinRAR and see if this can unwrap this file? Use the latest trial version of WinRAR?

    Thanks again!

    -Colin

The first download I did from flightsim store was corrupt & would not install, fortunately for me the second attempt worked, I used mozilla FireFox browser , but I didn't use a download manager , but I will get that plug in now I am aware of it, you may find you have other isues even after doing an install of ftx pnw , I couldn't get ftx central to work , kept getting a fatal exception, I had to get fsx to show certain files & also change permissions in the properties tab. When you do get it working & hopefully you will sooner or later it is amazing , set season to early fall its stunning.

That's what I'm using. It works for 40 days and then it nags you to purchase but continues to work from what I've seen. ORBX uses Winrar to wrap up the installers, so hopefully it will be able to unwrap it for you.

I finally got it to work, and the key was the updated version of WinRAR to unwrap the giant. I will email support back so they can put this in their list of things to try if a customer reports this problem. Thank you to everyone for their helpful ideas!

Glad you got it working, I had the same issues a few months ago myself starting with a dial-up connection which meant I had to use my sister's DSL to download the file. I tried to put it on a USB drive to bring it home but it kept reporting the disk full (it was an empty 8Gb flash drive, but FAT32). I finally downloaded the latest Winrar and installed it on her machine which let me extract the file so I could copy the individual parts onto the USB drive. She only had like 8gb free HDD space when I started, so I extracted the .zip directly to the flash drive but even then it still extracted the file to her temp folder before it copied it onto the flash drive. It's a wonder it didn't overfill her HDD and crash it, boy I'd a been sh*t if that would have happened, lol. Later I formatted the USB drive to NTFS so > 4gb files can now be downloaded straight onto it. Twas quite an experience for me as well to learn how to deal with these huge files!

So how do you like PNW?

    Jim

By coincidence I downloaded the free OrbX 'Tasmania' demo yesterday and it works perfectly (I'm Win XP Home), demos are a good way of "trying first" before buying full products; they also do a free 'Pacific Northwest' demo here-
