Thread: What all aircraft has everyone flown in? (Real Life)

  1. Default

    What Ho chaps,
I'm new here but some of you may remember me from such sims as "IL2 Sturmovik". Anyway here's my list of experiences. Nothing spectacular ....until you get to the end:

Dragon Rapide (In the 1960's, around Lands End in Cornwall, UK. I was only about 6 or 7 and wouldn't walk across to the other seat as I was convinced I'd fall through the floor!)
    707
    Caravelle
    VC10 (RAF)
    BAC 111
Viscount (VERY comfortable indeed, Virgin, Gatwick to Maastricht several times in the mid 80's)
Airbus A340 (Virgin. Heathrow to LA. Very comfortable)
747 (Virgin again. From LA to Heathrow.Fast but bloody uncomfortable!)
    767
Some others, mainly Airbuses to Europe.

    Helo:

    Sikorsky S61

    and finally

    Warbird:

TF-51 Mustang "Crazy Horse" in Florida on 6 July 2012, my 50th birthday present of the Mrs who you can hear near the end of this bit of footage that I edited from the video taken by my son and the on board video. Best £1500 I ever spent and I WILL be doing it again!

I've flown in the following as a passenger:

    Airliners:

    Boeing 707
    Boeing 737 (200, 300 series)
    Boeing 747 (200, 300, 400 series)
    Boeing 767 (200, 300 series)
    Boeing 777 (200 series)
    Airbus A300
    Airbus A330 (200 series)
    Airbus A340 (300 series)
    McDonnell-Douglas MD-82
    Beech 1900D
    ATR 72
    Fokker F-50

    GA:

    Cessna 177
    Cessna 206
    American Champion 8KCAB Citabria
    Grumman American AA-5
    Socata TB-10 Tobago
    North American Harvard 3
    Partenavia P.68C
    Cirrus SR-22

And I've logged time in the following as pilot:

    Cessna 150
    Cessna 152
    Cessna 162
    Cessna 172 (many variants)
    Cessna 182
    Piper PA-18 Super Cub
    Piper PA-28 Cherokee (many variants)
    Piper PA-38 Tomahawk
    Robin R2120U
    Robin R2160 (Alpha 160)
    Grumman American AA-1C
    Slingsby T-67 Firefly
    Beech 76 Duchess
    Pilatus PC-12

I think that's everything although I may have missed a few. Out of all of those I think the Grumman AA-1C is the aircraft I have the most combined time in as both pilot and passenger.

Sadly I have not had the opportunity to fly in many different airplane types. The most memorable unusual aircraft I've been in was a Ford Trimotor:

    I've flown ...

    Cessna 152
    - Only flew in this twice when I first started lessons. It felt so small I upgraded to the 172 for the rest of my training.

    Cessna 172 -
    - Did all my training and some interesting cross country trips (with the instructor). I did my solo in this aircraft.

    Piper Archer - (Nels Plane)
    - Many trips with Nels flying all over Maine, New York, and Massachusetts.

    Piper Arrow
    - My first experience at straight and level flight in a faster aircraft and feeling the drag of retractable gear on down wind.

    Velocity Elite
    - Test flew the Velocity Elite in Sebastian Florida with Duane Swing. My most memorable plane and very enjoyable.
