I believe most of the people here and on Facebook will agree that this is a step backwards. The FSX graphics are superior based on the fact that you need a powerful system to be able to run it while Flight can run on lesser machines, and I thought I saw it running on an X-Box at CES? What does that tell you? Also it is a closed system, no freeware from enthusiasts, no third party addons, all addons will only come from MS. Myself nearly all of my flights have been round the world flights. I think I've been around the world almost 500 times but I don't have my flight log in front of me.
Last week I did a short flight to try out FSX for the first time in the default
747. I liked the way it flew, however the plane's graphics and livery were terrible, looked fuzzy and it had a generic livery. Couple nights ago I downloaded the largest file POSKY freeware
747-8F in UPS livery, 70 mb's! It looked great, and it flew silky smooth. And it was all free (or if you want you can make a donation). MS is denying us that opportunity in FLight by refusing to give us the SDK. Also it is just warmed over FSX rehashed by the Games department which makes online console games. It will be very online oriented, and probably will run on an X-Box if you want to buy it that way but I'm just speculating. I have never flown in an online environment but many flight simmers have gone onto the Vatsim system for live ATC etc. It is FSX rehashed by the Game department that doesn't even know anything about flying.
I could be wrong, they could revamp it more to our liking, and might even have a change of heart if that is even remotely possible and give us the SDK. But still, in my opinion development of FLight was a waste of time when they could have stuck with the standard old fashioned format that is know to work and make a profit and which appeals to a fanbase that is ready to buy it. Instead they snubbed the hardcore flight simmers strangely hoping they "would not alienate" their customer base. Flight has created an uproar of unprecendented scale because despite all their NOT listening to us they produced a product which has completely missed the mark. How could they possibly be upset about our reaction, because they never listened to what we, the customer base, wanted? In the military, if this were a dinner delivered to the commanding officer, it would likely be thrown with force against the opposite wall.
