Flying Blind Around the PNW!
IFR series at the Digital Theme Park.......
This Friday 20th, Jan. at 2100 Zulu we will be running the first of a series of IFR flights, in dense cloud in any aircraft with a basic IFR panel only - no gps. The weather will be set by "Zoo" in the server – 400 or 1000’ base 5000 tops – i.e. solid overcast with no wind.
Everyone uses the default 172 (or equivalent), with a basic nav setup: i.e. 2 x com/nav units, 1 x adf, 1 x DME, 1 x A/P, 1 x Transponder.
The Flight Plan:
Short and simple for the first one - documented as text and published five or six days prior to departure, each leg will be done in and around the PNW area, and will take between 15 and 45 minutes. It will commence in visual met conditions, transitioning to instrument mc at about 1000’. Each leg may include an ILS T & G, with an ILS landing at the end. The group will assemble at each departure airport just like the VFR flights. Shared cockpits are very acceptable, pilots may request this, and these flights will count as a completed flight.
No use of any GPS, flight following, moving map or ‘Plan G’ type tools, however - you may want to use or print off the very useful (and included with each plan) SkyVector "Enroute L-1" area map.
AussieX weather ( http://dl.dropbox.co...6345/ausiwx.zip )
and some IFR practice are recommended. ( http://dl.dropbox.co...R_CYYJ_KFHR.zip ).
If you think you have the skills and would like to do something different – please join in for some unusual fun on the first leg on Friday, Jan. 20th., in the "IFR Around the PNW" channel.
Connect via TeamSpeak3, (get it from: http://www.teamspeak...?page=downloads) at ts3.digitalthemepark.com. Someone - probably Zoo - will join you very shortly after you connect, to welcome and guide your first visit!
Thanks & Have Fun!
