Thread: Ubuntu vs Linux Mint

I like Ubuntu also, however it seems to need a little polishing which is what LinuxMint does. linuxMint is now rated as #1 on the distrowatch list. Mint polishes a lot of things on Ubuntu. When I do the first or later updates on Ubuntu it seems to work quirky I don't know why. The incident about the read only partition above is an example. But I do like ubuntu.

I've been stuck with KDE Linuxmint 12, with the very fancy KDE interface, I'm starting to like it a little although I have pulled in many programs from Synaptic and Gnome. It started out as KDE LM 12 RC, did the upgrade online to bring it to final, then my KDE LM update manager icon disappeared! I think I have to reinstall KDE LM 12 final. The standard gnome version is not capable of booting/running on this computer. I have it on the others but it doesn't like this one. Ubuntu gnome worked however it became quirky after updates.

I downloaded the latest Sabayon 8 64 bit, full version. Plugged in a 16 gb thumb drive after unplugging all other HDD's. Was able to install it onto the thumb drive. The access speed is really stunning. After installing a huge number of updates......for the first time in years the video driver held and it still boots all the way to the desktop. I'm in shock! Something might not be right however with the partitioning, have to check tomorrow with gparted. At least Sabayon is working after being updated.

I have liked Linuxmint 11 and back better, however on this Q9450 computer, not one Linuxmint Gnome would work on it, and I went back to LM9 if I recall. LM12 KDE worked however, and it looked really nice, but I'm just used to the Gnome environment. In this case on this computer Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit Gnome, is the best of all possible worlds, like it better than windows. Have to say however, Linuxmint 11 is extremely good. LM12 Gnome is working well on a couple of my Pentium 4 computers, but if I have a lot of work to do, LM11 Gnome is built better for heavy work and multitasking.

    Right on about paypal!
