Thread: Is this X-Plane 10 'as real as it gets' ?

  1. Default

You're right Jim: no default airport buildings, except for KSEA (X-Plane 10), LOWI (X-Plane 9), and here's the list of the default airports added by Aerosoft in X-Plane 10:

    Aerosoft - EDDF Frankfurt
    Aerosoft - EDLP Paderborn-Lippstadt
    Aerosoft - EGLL Heathrow
Aerosoft - LFMN Nice Cote d Azur
    Aerosoft - LFPO Paris Orly
    Aerosoft - LPFR Faro
    Aerosoft - EBBR Brussels
    Aerosoft - EDDH Hamburg
    Aerosoft - EDDM Munich
    Aerosoft - EDDS Stuttgart
    Aerosoft - EDDT Berlin Tegel
    Aerosoft - EDDV Hannover
    Aerosoft - EGBB Birmingham
    Aerosoft - EGSS London-Stansted
    Aerosoft - EIDW Dublin
    Aerosoft - LEBL Barcelona
    Aerosoft - LFPG Paris CDG
    Aerosoft - LSGG Genf

And if you like snow or more airports, then just use add-ons.

    Happy flying.

MdMax - you have posted a lot of very attractive screenshots and videos showing impressive X-10 performance, but my impression is that it needs a lot of add-ons to get to this level. Now, I don't know how much is freeware and how much is payware, but if much of it is payware, it would seem that X-10 could quickly become an expensive proposition. Am I wrong?

    Fanboys?
    LMAO!!!
    Look who's talking!
In case you hand't noticed, it's an X Plane forum frequented by X Plane users talking about X Plane.
Jim is an FSX fanboy talking about FSX in a...surprise surprise...X Plane forum.
And you're calling me a fanboy?
Shall I go the FSX forum and start talking about how realistic X Plane is and accuse all the members there that they are FSX fanboys?
Nah. I actually have better things to do with my time.

Better things to do. you spend most of your time here defending xplane

x-plane out of the box is pretty. There is a free demo, so you can check it out for yourself, and see what you think. Here is a video of the demo with no add-ons.

@John: You can find freeware files, but yes, you can also buy a lot of payware add-ons and it can become an expensive proposition, but the situation is better as compared to FS, not only because with FSX you need more expensive hardware and a strange operating system.

A few examples: I bought the MU-2 Marquise, the JRollon CRJ-200 and RealScenery Arizona for X-Plane 9:
    http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showth...ace-and-clouds
    http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showth...egas-to-Tucson

It's the same with the Yak-40 I bought for X-Plane 9: awesome plane with working circuit-breakers, weather radar, realistic avionics..:

In fact I can still use everything in X-Plane 10. How many FS2004 add-ons have you been able to use in FSX without paying a new version ? In X-Plane, most add-ons didn't need a patch. Sometimes, specific X-Plane 10 versions have been made for the new lighting features (CRJ-200), but the X-Plane 9 version worked, and you can also still fly your favorite X-Plane 8 aircraft.

As Mafoo said, the default scenery is very nice, and it's a good base for VFR flying, thanks to the accurate rivers, coastlines, railways, roads and power-lines from OpenStreetMap. The default terrain mesh and landclass is also very good. Read more about this here:
    http://xsimreviews.com/2011/12/10/de...-mr-x-terrain/

Then you can even convert FS sceneries. Here's a topic:
    http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showth...-to-X-PLANE-10

I'm not posting screenshots without add-ons, because everyone can test the free demo and see how it's looking with default stuff. Do you remember how FSX/P3D was looking without add-ons ? If not, you can still find the trial version here.

    Happy flying.

Actually, I don't. I spend most of my time making add on aircraft and hanging out at http://www.x-pilot.com and avsim, helping people with X Plane.
I've made less than a dozen posts here in the last 5 months because of people such as yourself and Jim and I don't defend X Plane nearly as much as Jim defends FSX. The difference is, I don't criticize FSX nearly as much as Jim criticizes X plane. So if you want to jump on that bandwagon, be my guest.
Ask yourself this question...why doesn't the development community for X Plane make any posts here?
I've been more warmly welcomed at FSDeveloper.com than flightsim.com
    And they're predominantly FSX based.
    Shame

    I'm happy for you, Jim.
No, really, I am seriously happy for you!
For half a second, I thought you were talking about FSX and maybe even a sprinkling of Flight.
    Many thanks for the clarification!

I think the title is confusing... It's in the X-Plane forum and it's about X-Plane 10, but people continue to talk about FS here because of the "as real as it gets" Microsoft campaign, that was in several Microsoft ads.

    Do you remember this ?
