Thread: RIP Microsoft Flight

  1. #1

    Thumbs down RIP Microsoft Flight

At the moment, I may download the free version of flight but I am not paying to unlock more of the world or get more planes. From what I understand, freeware is dead. If Flight turns out to be just like FSX, but with many improvements, I may consider buying it.

When I found out that Flight was being released, I got excited and couldn't wait to see all the improvements. Now that the fact sheet has been released, I am partly dreading the final release. As I am sure most hard-core flight simmers will be, I will be sticking with FSX.

    Peace!

(My rant was based on what I understand from the fact sheet, please correct me if I am wrong)

I never really had high hopes for Flight.

I think there will be two parallel products. Flight for beginners and those looking for a quick fix and FSX for experienced users.
Once the begginers begin to want more serious flying, they will buy FSX and add-ons (that is if MS doesn't kill off FSX for good).

Especially since there will be no 3rd party addons
For those who haven't seen it, the final nail in the coffin, the announcement of no third-party addons:

'There will be no user development kit and hence no user created content'
    (a different thread)

I remember reading somewhere, possibly some more forum speculation where someone stated Microsfot are not as naive to alienate their entire fanbase, and they appreciate the complexity, sophistication and fan's comprehension of advanced addons like PMDG, Captain Sim, Level-D and A2A.
    Well they were wrong.

I think it was in PC Pilot magazine (UK) where Microsoft said they would use the online features of FLIGHT to alert newcomers and more casual sim users to the huge variety of 3rd party addons.
Did they know at this time about what they have announced on this (flyawaysimulation.com)?

The only plane it comes with is basically a car with wings

Save very carefully your FSX Discs..even though if Microsoft kills it nobody can take it out of your PC. Flight is like an Xbox game in which you will have to buy scenery, planes etc. Not a sim just a money making game. Serious simmers will stick with FSX.

I actually have no plans to download it; I haven t even bothered watching the vids touting it - might as well use battlefield 3 to fly, what 's the difference ?

FSX will probably be 'one of those unfortunate' incompatible games with future versions of windows. IE windows 8 which is only just around the corner.

How, (if you haven't watched the vids,) can you make that conclusion?

What do you mean 'Microsoft kills it'? Their page for FS2000 still reads like they want you to buy it and they link you to shops for it (FS2000)
