Default It's Full Of Stars

LAST EDITED ON Oct-31-01 AT 10:50PM (EDT)[p]I feel like Dave Bowman fused with the Hal9000 computer on the sequel to "2001 - A Space Odessy". 2010.

I've been an astronomy buff since I was 9 and that was 32 years ago. I'm at FL400 in the stock 777 on my current flight inside FS2K2 (Vancouver to San Fran). Behind me (north) is the Big Dipper and to the west is Orion's belt, his bow and a sun that is 2 hrs before a westcoast sunset.

    That is too freakin' cool.

    I'm in love. :)

Default As Virtually Real As It Gets.

Sorry about the 216 KB download but, thanks to FS2K2's contrails (above 30,000') you wind up getting a visual log of your flight going back 5 minutes or so.

And, while I love my joystick I hate it equally since it's hat controls the virtual external view. A hat fused to the joy stick which in turn controls the flight surfaces of the 777 in the pic below. All I did was go for the cool shot and ba-bing, I lost 3,000 feet then got 4,000 back then stabalized 1,000 below that.

    Only in flight sim. :-)

I'm not a real pilot, but I can tell you that it's Soooo relaxing to sit in front of the monitor and fly at night. I really enjoy flying in the spot mode and watching all the other planes and stars..sigh... whatta sim eh!

I love it toooooo.. (and of course, in two weeks when I bump up to a... eh hem... 2 gighz system.. hehe... I'll love it even more.

And they said having no social life wouldn't pay off!.. HA! I take my dating money and spend it on my computer!... HUMPH!

    hehe..

Yes, I certainly agree, night is the best it has ever been in FS, and I too find it quite relaxing; good "therapy", ;-)

Night is one time when you can just clear out all the weather, and enjoy the sky in all its glory. However, I have a feeling MS got the phases of the moon wrong, as we had a basically full moon the last couple of nights here, and in FS it was a half moon, if even that.

Oh well, it's still beautiful! :-)

Sometimes I just love to taxi to the runway runoff and watch the airplanes soar 20 feet above my head, in the dark of the night with the jewels of light alive...

I had the full moon on my FS last night and the night before. Maybe you didn't have your date set correctly.

Just to add a comment on the moon setting, I flew out of Calgary Alberta Canada International CYYC runway 16 on Halloween night Oct 31 and the moon was rising full in the east. Great sight in spot mode.

    Cheers,

It's fun coming in on approach, and seeing all the planes lined up to the sides, or the exact opposite, and just waiting, and watching them land over your head. Reminds me of a cool night on the beach with a light wind, and well you know how good that feels. Maybe I'm just crazy.

I was just noticing this last night. In previous MS sims, I couldn't make out any discernable constellations and figured they just put in a few bright pixels to sim stars.

But last night I'm flying one of the "eccentric author" adventures at night (sim time...) and notice the unmistakable shape of Ursa Major. I wondered what else was there. In the brief time I was looking, I spotted Ursas Major & Minor, Scorpius, Saggitarius and Cassiopea. I was mightily impressed, as I am with the texturing the moon received.

Yet another nice suprise in FS2002.

Just wait until you see a shooting star go by.
