Thread: Help for an old newbie please. (Mesh/Scenery) add-ons

  1. Default Help for an old newbie please. (Mesh/Scenery) add-ons

    Hello all.

I have got the bug to grab a copy of FS2004 (after not simming since FS98 or so, and not trusting my trusty(sort of) PC with FSX) and would like advice on what I would need to beef up the visuals.

After internet research I am planning on the following...

    FS Global 2008
    Ground Environment Pro
REX for the sky, water etc.

Finally, if I have understood what I have read corectly, I would need something for VFR in the UK and was thinking of 1 of the following...

    Ultimate Terrain Europe
    FSGenesis NextMap UK
JustFlight VFR Scenery (but I think I will not get any ai buildings etc with this?)

Am I on the right lines or have I got it wrong and the above will all conflict with each other?

    Many thanks for any advice.

    John.

ps. I have a core 2 E4500 with an HD3870 card, Vista and 2 gigs ram. Not state of the art I know.

    Hi John,
if you really want to beef up fs2004, get the just flight vfr - there are 4 parts and its not cheap but is really worth it, and if you want some AI in there, there are 2 ways you can go. The cheapest (free) is downloading flight plans and I recommend any WOAI from here or their site, you need the main program to install but after that these guys have worked out flight plans with the aircraft as well, you may know that but its worth mentioning. Airfields - you cant get better than the UK2000 scenery collection for I think 5 areas they put in the main airfields, and airports with some eyecandy in there as well and of course GE pro, there is almost too many add ons and you run the risk of having too much in there - and not enough time on your hands to fly or not enough space on your pc, I eventually went to add on 2 new 2tb hard drives one for fs2004 and one for fsx and have very few problems. This site is the best for downloading addons (creep creep!) but others especially for UK-themed addons are around and can add so many other little bits for example there is one specifically for putting oil rigs around the coast and windfarms, worth a visit if your having a nice vfr along the coasts. For Europe I suppose it depends where you fly but again freeware is available for scenery enhancement if you search. Oh by the way, if you are flying in and out of Schiphol - treat yourself to the Aerosoft Mega Amsterdam one of the best ever! Have fun.

I use FSMETAR for adding weather to my flights. You can download past weather from around the world and load it into the prgram, and it runs in the background and changes to the nearest ICAO station enroute.

There was a demo of the Genisis terrain mesh which covered the whole of the British Isles.

I use Horizons VFR scenery + their terrain mesh. There a hundreds of building add ons for it on the file search here,

Try just flight traffic 2005 for a massive amount of AI traffic - now you will fly the UK with UK aircraft flying around, and not the defaults.

    Welcome to the sim
