  1. Default Newbie, Done research but would like advice too please.

Hiya Im trev and Ive broken my foot at work and now got 5 weeks of spare time. Been sat with foot elevated and looking for something to do on internet.I used to play fs3 loads when I was a kid, but never thought about it since. Im now 32 and ive somehow Got drawn into watching you tube vids of FSX.. Anyway Hooked on it.. Pc needed a upgrade for a while, Currently 1.87ghz 3mg ram..

    So Tomorrow arrives :
    Quad core
    AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHZ overclocked to 3.8ghz
    8GB Dual Channel 1600 DDR3
NVIDIA GTX 560 1GB Ti OC
tb hdd.. Gonna save for a ssd, but for now fsx will share with windows.

Hope that system will be okay Best I can afford.

I am looking for advice on the best scenery (Where to find, Which ones you like) even payware but only if its spectacular, not made of money but I am going for as realistic as possible.

    I currently have
    FSX Ultimate
    FS Global 2010
Even if there is something better than FS Global let me know. I can always sell.

I will join the pay download part of this site also. Can anybody give me good landscape to fill cities etc on top of SFG10.
I am specially looking for Asia and the east. There seems to be alot more about for the european countries.

Hope someone can give me some pointers. You might also see me begging for help whilst setting all this up, Though I do search forums before any question is asked.

    Thanks in advance..

I crushed my Talus, broke my shin in 2 places and many bones in my foot last year on a downhill mountain bike and tree incidient (its still not right) last year and flew many many hundreds of hours. Its theroputic and helps the healing process, plus at least your not being a bum and wasting time. I class flight sim as my part time job. lol. Your specs are nice but FSX is a killer pain in the ass, im sure many here will agree. I run similar specs but use FS9 with a few good add ons and OMG its awesome.

REX is a must, PMDG MD-11, Ifly 737 are brilliant and due to the complex nature of both you will not get bored. Do what i done, pick one aircraft and stick with it. For me the MD-11 is my bird of choice. Nice airport scenery is always nice as a good part of a real life flight is spent at a gate setting up, then taxi etc. Its always nice to have something visaully pleasing to look at during long taxi outs. World of AI is freeware AI traffic is is simply brilliant.

Id spend your time doing the tutorials first in the cessna etc, as this is a brilliant way to get back up to speed with things.

Hope this helps, i have sooooo much in my FS folder its hard to remember it all. Be prepared to sacrafise alot of normal life because if your anything like me, FS is massivly addictive.

Hi thanks for responding, first time ive done a forum.
Your accident sounds horrible, hope it doesnt cause too much probs throughout your life. I have (Just) broken my heel after a high fall, been in plaster 5 wk but still as many left off work, wish I had found the sim earlier.

FS9 is not out of the question, as I dont want to spend too much time faffing with minor details, i dont mind a bit of faffing, but i wont enjoy if it gets in the way too much with playability.

Can you expand on what add ons you use for FS9, do you have any screen shots of your graphics on here anywhere.

Ok i will list the main ones

REX for weather and weather scenery
You cant go wrong with aerosoft or flytampa for airport scenery
Radar contact, for more realistic ATC and radio chatter
VRoute, for flight planning and fuel etc
VFR photographic scenery for all the UK, Good for visual flights

I have many screenies but heres a few, all unedited just resized

    Cheers.
Your pics are amazing, The graphics look just like FSX, The sunset in the first one is real, I guess thats Rex, like you say "a must".
I will look into the other programs tomorrow, and start hunting down some airports.
Gonna try FSX first, since i already have it, If its too much of a pain I will change when I buy my ssd.

I am going to use this guide http://flyawaysimulation.com/news/38...ps-and-tweaks/ as a basis for settings, and then add and add until it can take no more.

I hope I can rely on you if I have any other questions, once im installed.

    Thanks for your help Alan.
