Thread: Your first 'wow!' simming moment.

  1. Default Your first 'wow!' simming moment.

    Hi,

What was the first moment that really made you go 'Wow' when flight simming?

I was amazed with FS2 in the Sublocgic days. It was fantastic flying over polygon mountains and over rivers with a multitude of airfields to land at - though sometimes I ended up landing on the taxiway, because the wire framed graphics sometimes made it hard to determine the runway from the taxiway

I was really amazed flying FS2004 for the first time; the clouds still amaze me today, and the sky is full of planes; FS2 was a lonely old world to fly around.

Gets a bit annoying when a 767 charges passed you at 20ft and decideds it wants to get in front of you in the final approach order

The ILS still facinates me; it was a real 'wow' moment doing my first non-tutorial ILS app. I still think they are amazing to do.

Hope I haven't put you all to sleep!

I played with FS for several versions, but never caught the bug.

One day in FS2002 I was flying along and met another plane flying along near me. The ability to fill my skies with other aircraft, to not be alone - that brought me to FS full-time.

My first "wow" moment was probably during the flight simulator default flight lessons. I didn't know just how precise I had the ability to fly until I began to work on the instrument rating course (as well as the ILS section)

I have been simming since the 80's, so I can't remember the first "WOW!" moment, but there have been a lot, usually when a new edition comes out. I can remember one moment was when I first saw AI traffic (FS98 or FS2002?) taxiing a head of me at an airport. All of a sudden, the skies were no longer just mine.
Another was when I bought my first payware aircraft and I saw the difference in detail compared to most freeware aircraft. I am not trying to start a freeware vs. payware debate, just commenting.

When "Airport for Windows" was released! For the 1st time, I could actually use a google satellite screenie and position everything accurately in the sceneries I was making.
With it, I also learned the FS98 tiling system to create a couple of photo real airports and Islands and started making my own APIs and models. 'twas an inspiration!...Don

FS 2002. The ability to fly the big boys (i.e. the Boeings). Something I always wanted to do!

My first big wow was inFS9, and after finding this and other forum sites, learning that there was a huge amount of freeware I could have for free. The following wow moment was looking out of the cockpit of a VC equipped 747 and I was in command. Of course that second wow was kinda short lived as it took me a while to learn to get it airborne in time. Ah but then there was a wow in that moment too, followed by a lot of them since then. This a wow making activity and I'm hooked.

    good flights, Cal
