Thread: Thomas Ruth's 727-200 Advanced

  1. Default Thomas Ruth's 727-200 Advanced

    I have Mr. Ruth's 727 200-Advanced. It handles very well while flying with only yoke, throddle, flaps, etc. However it has a 1960's instrument panel and as far as I can see, no ILS. Also the panel is difficult to read and there is no auto pilot on the main planel although " cruise control" is there. It is extremly difficult for me to navigate this bird. Is there a more modern panel that will install in this airplane, or do I have to get in a FedEx 727 flight simulator. Yes, Federal Express currently owns the largest fleet of 727s.
    I am not a newbe, I have been active since FS 98.

    You can always add an AP window to your panel.cfg! While learning how to use the "cruise control" properly, I did!
    Add the following to your panel.cfg and change XX in both WindowXX to the next available number. Mine has the FMC, Leave the Mini-Panel as Window09.

    [Window Titles]
    Window00=Main Panel
    Window01=Radios
    Window02=Pedestal
    Window03=GPS
    Window04=Overhead
    Window05=Engineer Panel
    Window06=FMC
    WindowXX=Autopilot
    ...
    Window09=Mini-Panel

    [WindowXX]
    Background_color=0,0,0
    size_mm=463,90
    position=0
    visible=0
    ident=80
    window_pos= 0.000, 0.030

    gauge00=B737_800!Autopilot, 0,0,463,90

    If your engineers panel Icon doesn't work, change the 2nd "[Window04]"(followed by file_1024=panelengineer.bmp) to [Window05]...Don

    Maybe the instruments on the 727 look kinda sixties because the aircraft is from that era ?

    Thomas Ruth's 727 models and panels have an autopilot. A 727 autopilot.
    With HDG, NAV and APP hold. And ALT hold (you have to fly the plane to that altitude yrself though).
    And the -200ADV has IAS hold ("cruise control" as you call it ).

    If you feel uncomfortable with the autopilot, T.Ruth has included a "pussy panel", which behaves more like the 737 AP.

    IMO if you want a "modern" panel, fly a "modern" aircraft. Just waiting for the first poster asking for the Wright flyer with a working FMC.

    funny how he tries to show how bigshot he is with his knowledge of fed ex 727 LOL rmaol... everybody knows fedex flys the 727 and lots of them because the airlines retired them...... can you entertain us with more of your knowledge??? lets hear it..

    like the first reply.. its ok to be a newb.. own up to it.. instead of try to bs everybody.. funny funny funny thanks for the laugh.

    as another post said. there is 727 autopilot.. just like the one in the 737-200 i got my ATP ticket in.. altitude hold only.. will not capture a preset altitude.. you have to fly to the altitude and lock onto it yourself. no cruise control as you say though.. it will cruise at whatever airspeed you get out of the power setting you give it.

    lets see its been awhile since ive flown that autopilot.. will capture a ils and nav course. also has heading hold.

    that's all i think it will do.. and by the way the flight directer and autopilot are two separate things,, they don't even know each other exists. so you have to set them up right or you will be asking yourself "whats it doing know" all the time.

    The HJG Vistaliners 727-200 ADVC definitely has auto-throttle and IAS hold. I think they know their stuff.

    I put an AP on the VIMY. It doesn't like the heading bug too much.

    HJG does have some impressive stuff, but, the lack of a VC hurts. The HJG 2D and popups are great and I have the best of both HJG and TR!
    I married the HJG 727-200 ADV 2D with Mr.Ruth's 727-200 ADV model and VC. I haven't done much flying with that configuration, so, I don't know how interactive the nav and AP controls will be. This one doesn't have TR's PP AP ...Don
