Thread: How to taxi in FSX?

  1. Default

    Oliver,
I do not know what aircraft you are flying or what type of airports you are arriving. If you are flying a small private A/C to a regional airport without a tower, just turn off the runway and taxi to any unoccupied spot. If you a flying a 737 and land at KMSY in New Orleans, you must be extremely familar with the airport. Also, are you running the game with the setting high enough to show the marker signs that indicate the runways, taxi way? In the real world arena, these signs are very easy to see and are lighted at night. When my great uncle first landed a 747 at Frankfurt, he said that he was met by a truck with a sign on the bed stating " Follow Me". To my knowledge the gates are not marked in FSX. Also commercial air crews are supplied with extremely detailed maps of the airports. My pard just bid and got 15 hour non stop to India. I will ask him if he had any problems when he exited the runway.
If anyone knows all the gates and taxiways for FSX, I think they are spending way too much time flying on a PC.

Advantage (or disadvantage) is it shows runways, taxiways and parking spots as they are in yr current FSX environment.

I strongly suggest that you GET THEE TO THE LEARNING CENTER where you will not only be saved from the depredations of the aforementioned monsters but you will also have the means to learn the answer you seek.

What is an IVAO anyway? Never mind, I don't really care. Welcome to the forum.

Are you still there? Hurry up! The monsters are coming!
You jinxed it. I totally agree with you. I am totally disgusted when someone asks a question and gets chewed up for asking it. This forum used to be a place that was warm and you could actually get help with a problem you're having. Sadly of late it has become the domain of the gods and if any lesser mortal strays in here they are consumed with a bolt of lightening combined with fire and brimstone. In the spirit of the late David "Opa" Marshall whom we all know was extremely helpful to all, I believe that this forum should not allow what you mentioned above to be lurking in this Forum.

Pardon my ignorance but if the Newbie forum is for Newbies and this forum is for the gods then who's answering the newbie questions? Newbies asking newbies questions? Please enlighten me someone.

URIAHMS- a newbie "gets chewed up for asking" ?

Heck, I have been called " a yapping, mindless chihuahua",..... told.... "you cant read",..... Called a.... "pirate" ,.... told I..... "Didnt word your post right"..... belittled that I..... "didnt do basic research to discover there are different versions of Flight Simulator"..... and the best one was..... "that a little humility, reflecting your own ineptitude"... would do me some good.

And all those were only as a result of my first three posts within the first week on this forum barely two months ago, by SENIOR members after owning FSX for only a matter of days and not knowing which end was up.

But as long as people want to throw rocks at this 71 year old guy , they better be wearing a steel helmet because they are going to get the rocks right back.

I was a daily member on the TRAINSIM forum for many years and designed some of the biggest activities there and never got a single bit of sarcasm thrown my way.

Yeah , you better have a thick skin if you are a newbie on this forum.

And to those who are, I say I will do MY best to try to help you. We ALL started NEW on day ONE at some point in time, but some of the ELITE seem to have forgot that.

Here is one from FS Commander also to give you a choice- when connected to your plane by GPS you can follow its movement all along the various ways.

This is NOT a newbies forum. The Newcomers Forum is the newbies forum. If that isn't the case, why does that forum exist?

How I see it, the OP already knew how to taxi using the pedals and whatnot, and wanted to know how to taxi without having progressive taxi as an option when he flies on IVAO. After having his hand held by using progressive taxi all the time, the OP just wanted to know how to do it otherwise. That doesn't really sound like he would fit in the Newbie category. There are a lot of pseudo-Newbie questions that pop up here. In my case, I have a heck of a lot of FS hrs, (my signature shows it), but I have a newbish question. Should I post it here in the FSX forum (because I fly using FSX), FS9 forum (because it deals with a default FS9 plane), Newcomer's forum (because it is a question about landing)?

But going to the OP's original question, I fly on VATSIM and when there is no ATC around to tell me what to do, I just use the default ATC. Should a live ATC come on, I just switch over to him. It's not like the AI ATC is going to be upset. But you have the AI ATC there to provide progressive taxi. Also like the others said, get a taxi or parking diagram of the airport involved and you should be ok. One good resource to get charts, in addition to those mentioned above, is IVAO's site.
