Thread: How to taxi in FSX?

  1. Default How to taxi in FSX?

    Hello...

I was wondering if someone could tell me how to taxi in flight simulator. Not right, left, speed, etc... I know this..

I wanted to understand how to get to the runway or gate.

In FSX, the tower tells you: TAXI TO GATE B3, VIA TAXIWAY MIKE CHARLIE, BRAVO2.... And then I use the arrows to get to the place. However, I want to enter IVAO and there are no arrows in IVAO... So, how should I follow the taxiway?

There are evil creatures lurking on this forum; Wim-o-griffs and Malcott monsters, to name but a few, prowling around just looking for a newbie like you so they can rip open a new butt hole for you for having the temerity to ask such an uninformed question. I strongly suggest that you GET THEE TO THE LEARNING CENTER where you will not only be saved from the depredations of the aforementioned monsters but you will also have the means to learn the answer you seek.

What is an IVAO anyway? Never mind, I don't really care. Welcome to the forum.

Are you still there? Hurry up! The monsters are coming!

No, what he's asking is taxiing without using the Progressive Taxi. How does he do it online when landing at fields he's unfamilliar with.

Well,if he is online the guy playing Tower/Ground radio MUST know how to guide him, its HIS airport.
He cannot say cleared to gate 8 without having a clue where that is.
If theres no guy playing tower, only approaches, your online game ends there.
Usually a chart of the airport is available in the internet

Search for "Airport Chart Gauge V2" at AVSIM.

Advantage (or disadvantage) is it shows runways, taxiways and parking spots as they are in yr current FSX environment.

I dont know if it is mandatory for you to be on the internet for your solution, but here is a super way to find your way around taxiways by connecting to your active GPS in the plane you are flying.. It not only does that and guides you to proper size jetways as you move along the taxiway, but performs many other exceptional functions from flight planning to showing charts of airports anywhere in the world. And it functions while off-line so you dont have to be involved with IVAO.. I also use it in a split screen to follow my flight from high above by looking down on my aircraft as it follows a line it created in its own flight path feature. It also has an extraordinarly simple way of saving the flight plans to many pieces of software, such as PMDG as well as Flight Sim. Much simpler than FSBuild that I also have but rarely use anymore in favor of FSCommander.
Just give Flight Simulator Commander a peek at http://www.fscommander.com/

Perhaps it is something you can use. They also have a freebie download that you can try out that is fully functional for 30 min at a time.

Aren't "Wim-o-griffs" the ones with big pointy ears and a long tail?

OK, from the cockpit view, hit the 'S' key then be 'a' key THREE TIMES, then the backspace key to zoom your view to 1X. Then the plus or minus key depending on what perspective you want. This will at least give you some idea of the layout of the Airport.

In the real world they don't have progressive taxi and I found that out the hard way at Yaeger Airport in Charleston West Virginia one very busy Friday afternoon. I was a newbie pilot (talking real world here) and got so confused by the fast talking controller I ended up taking off on a taxiway. Boy did I get my butt chewed out!

A long, careful trip to the Learning Center is still a good idea. It still helps me and I go back to FS4.

Amen! I use http://www.airnav.com/airports/ plug in the ICAO, IATA, or name.
The airport's page will likely have an FAA downloadable diagram with the taxiways labeled.
The only problem happens when the airport's layout or taxiway designations have been changed since FSX was developed...Don
