I tried installing the beechcraft VC but it didnt work..... so I turned to the Bombardier CRJ one

Nope, that won't happen. The insinuation I would do that is rather insulting.
If you think the models cause the trouble (which might be possible), then run an FSX repair.

I just tried installing CRJ700-VC in the Dash 8, didnt get it working. But also just realised that if you dont see the plane in tower-view that has not got to do with the virtual cockpit. More likely something like missing textures, panel, sound, or basic model.

I can view/see the plane if I remove the VC files from the textures folder and remove the data from the model file

There is a good tutorial here I think: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=17996209
I think you can start from part 2, no need to update old FS9 files for you.
Allready checked for you, the dash 8 is built with the FSX-SDK.

pay especially attention to the following line ( is on that webpage and important!!):
**You might already have a folder called "texture" if you do you will have to rename it. This will affect the paint its calling so don't forget to update the aircraft.cfg!

So dont merge the texture folders, dont delete the original and put the crj700 file in its place. Instead, rename the original dash 8 texture folder, let the aircraft.cfg point to that new name. Then put the crj700 texture folder with the dash 8 files, keeping its original name.

The sentence: "This will affect the paint its calling so don't forget to update the aircraft.cfg!" made me think that might be your problem...
    hope you get it working.

something else thats important. When renaming texture folders it has to be done a certain way. you cant just name the texture-folder anything you want, like "mynewtexture", and then refer to it in the aircraft.cfg like "texture=mynewtexture". That way FSX wont find it.
It has to be named texture.xxx (xxx can be changed to anything you lik, but it has to start with "texture.", and in the aircraft.cfg you refer to this texture as follows: "texture=xxx". So for instance name your texture-folder "texture.newtexture" and refer to it in the aircraft.cfg by changing "texture=" to "texture=newtexture"
If you have more than one texture folder rename them to "texture.newtexture" "texture.newtexture1" and "texture.newtexture2" and below [fltsim.0] change texture= to texture=newtexture
    below [fltsim.1] change texture= to texture=newtexture1
    below [fltsim.2] change texture= to texture=newtexture2
