Thread: FSX Crashes at 71% while loading

  1. Default FSX Crashes at 71% while loading

I've been changing my scenery settings recently to get better fps. But now when I go to load a flight it crashes at about 71% when it is loading Autogen Scenery. I decided to go to settings and decrease Autogen density to normal. Loaded Fsx tried it again and kept crashing at 71%. I went back to lower the Autogen density even more but for some reason it went back to max (Extremely dense). I'm not sure what the problem is and how to fix it. Could someone please help.

    Thank you in advance.

The scenery settings are written to the cfg file during a normal exit. If the sim is crashing your changes are not maintained.
You can edit the cfg file manually or restore a previous backup. If you have one.
A few things to check: Have you changed the autogen textures or added scenery since the last sucessful start?
Do you have this problem if you start at a different location? — Bob

It was working succesfully untill I untinstalled a piece of scenery payware. I'm wondering when it unistalled it deleted a file. I uninstalled using the control panel.

I've tried deleting the Fsx.cfg and let it rewrite but i still have the same problem. Not sure where to go from here.

try a repair install of FSX and see if that clears it up.

It sounds like maybe its looking for something that you had in your saved 'default' flight. Set your autogen all the way to the left, then exit FS and restart it. Try to load a flight thats not your default and see it it loads.

BTW, you could have just disabled the scenery instead of removing it while you were experimenting, in the Scenery Manager. Never a good idea to delete anything permently until you know it's not going to adversely affect FS.

Was the scenery you added (then removed) for the Pacific Northwest United States by chance? Whether ORBX or someone elses. If so, the default flight would be looking for the files that could be creating the issue since the default flight is in that area.

In My Documents>Flight Simulator X ; is there a flight saved in a completely different part of the world? If so, try and load that flight.

    Hi raider,

I had the same thing happening to me so I followed the suggestions to let the program reinstall the FSX cfg. which is a good idea. No help. I removed recently added planes and scenery and restarted with the FSX Baron in default mode and it loaded. I think a downloaded freeware file was corrupted and was crashing my system. I did not reload those files and now I am far more careful of files I download from less familiar sites. I have not had this problem since. Good luck to you.

    good flights, Cal
