Thread: Organizing Aircraft Collection

  1. Question Organizing Aircraft Collection

    I think I remember in a previous post someone mentioned a program that allows you to view your aircraft library without having to run the sim, and
    you could limit the amount of aircraft that are active so it reduces the load time of FS9.

    Does anyone know what program that was?

    Also I have AI aircraft that show up in my aircraft selection window, and I want them to stop showing up there.

    My main issue is that I have so many aircraft that while browsing, sometimes FS9 gets overwhelmed and crashes before I decide which one to select. (When I click around to a bunch over a long time.)

    I also need to identify the source files for a few that have missing textures.

    Anyone else go through this?

    What Traffic Add-on are you using? There should be an option during installation allowing you to choose whether you want to see or not the AI in the FS select menu

    I use WOAI. Most of them don't show, but quite a few do.
    I didn't see any options relating that in the installer...

    have you tired searching on google for some fixes? I'm sute you'll find something helpful. I don't have experience with WoAI so I can't help you with that...

    About the organizer thing, I think I saw something similar (or that's the program you're talking about) by accident but I can't remember at all the name....like an Add-on manager, right? Is this the one http://www.fsxaddons.com/files/fs200...6-9c6301195421 ?

    Okay, I'll try Google. And yeah, that looks like it, idk if that's the exact one, but it seems to do the same things.

    To eliminate AI from your aircraft list try:

    FS Aircraft Typer - FSAT
    ====================
    version 1.0

    What it is
    ----------
    As AI Traffic was implemented in MSFS the number of aircrafts installed in MSFS increased enormously. To enjoy a lot of AI Traffic also means to have an oversupply of non-flyable aircrafts in the MSFS aircraft menu. Also the process of opening the MSFS aircraft menu takesmuch more time with hundreds of aircrafts that have to be loaded. To get rid of them when choosing an aircraft in MSFS but still let the aircrafts fly as AI Traffic is not possible with MSFS. This simple tool lets you make this job very quickly.

    ======================

    There were several aircraft managers for earlier versions of FS, but I've not found any I liked for FS9; which is irritating because FS9 is prone to crash if you look at too many aircraft in the "create flight" preview window.

    Unless I am wrong....you want to view your library without going into the sim. And you want to decrease aircraft load time. Forget AI those always load. For the flyable craft I have a seperate aircraft folder titled the Hanger. I know exactly what aircraft I may want to fly and simply insert those that I may wish to fly into the Empty FS9 folder before I turn it on. For me its simple and answers your needs.

    That is my main problem. I'm still searching for ways to deal with it.

    In all my years with FS9 I've found no solution to this annoyance. Was told it's caused by FS9 loading each aircraft into memory as you view it (whether the entire aircraft, just the 3D model, or just the graphics wasn't specified) and eventually memory is full; instead of overwriting at that point, FS crashes.

    While I know little of programming, it doesn't seem it would be that difficult to create a small program that would duplicate the FS9 preview window; it would certainly simplify painting. (There is such a utility for some racing sims; though it doesn't read the 3D models directly, they must be converted to its format. But you can rotate the image in all three axes, zoom in and out, even change lighting.)

    True. The utility I mentioned just prevents them from appearing in the aircraft list in-game; which does save a little loading time, and "de-clutters" the list.
