Thread: Renovating FSX

    Default Renovating FSX

I have been flying FSX since TUE 10/17/2006. Is there such a thing as replacement voices for ATC? I am getting so tired of those same voices all the time. I was flying along once and had to laugh when I heard both the pilot and the Air Traffic Controller with the same voice. I guess FS was simulating twin brothers in the aviation industry!

In the alternative, is there a quality ATC addon program for FSX? And while I'm renovating FSX, how about recommendations for a replacement Weather program? There are still holes in the FS world where there is no weather at all, such as MTPP.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Edit Voice Pack can speed up all the voices, even though they are default.

Radar Contact 4 will work with FSX for ATC.

Active Sky Evolution can improve your weather coverage. We do have weather data for MTPP and such.
    Thanks,

    Jim

    Hi Jim,

Actually, I haven't used Edit Voice Pack for a long time. But, what I was referring to was just getting some different voices. I used to run a program called CoPilot; I think that was when I was running FS2000. That program would install 25,000 wav files for the ATC Voices! It even used different voices for different parts of the world with local accents. It was really neat. The downside is that the program didn't do a very good job of setting up approaches.

The weather at MTPP and Kingston, Jamaica has had lots of problems in the past. I took a break just now and tried again and you are right; it has weather, now. It may have been something I was doing with my FSX.cfg file. For months I tried on and off to get weather at those two airports and it was always the same: Clear Skies, 59* F., no winds. After taking off and flying for a while I would gradually see weather beginning to build. I just assumed it was a problem with Jeppeson. Anyway, it's good to have the weather back there because I used to like flying down to those islands during our winter months up here in Ohio. I liked taking off in snow and freezing weather and arriving a few hours later in warm climes. Something like that adds so much to the enjoyment of Flight Simulator in general.

Thanks for your reply, Jim, and have a good flight.

If you want an ATC program that handles IFR and VFR, you want to use ProFlight Emulator Deluxe. Great program good voices, regional accents based on your flight.

For weather I recommend Open Clouds. It is free if you fly in UK (so you can check it out), otherwise it is a subscription basis. Well worth the $20/yr.

I agree with John Thuot II. I've been using ProFlight Emulator Deluxe for years, together with FDC Live Cockpit. Excellent programs.

Thanks to all for your good suggestions. I will be glad to check them out. I just made another short ATC flight into a mountainous area and I will be glad to find a real ATC program. I have seen messages in FSX that it is "configuring" the weather for FSX. Sometimes I think it is adjusting the weather to make it a little easier on us and I think FSX is a little too strict with the runway assignments. I have seen on real ATC clips that commercial jets land with 8-10 knot cross winds even when there was a great runway they could have used that would have given them a much better head wind. I don't think real pilots worry too much about a small cross wind like that.

Again, thanks. I will do a search for both those programs and give them a look.
