Thread: Good Freeware Seaplanes

  1. Post Good Freeware Seaplanes

I am searching for some good seaplanes for FS9. I only have a few and they aren't really what I'm looking for.

I been searching around and they are not that easy to find.

Also, does anyone know if the Carenado Cessnas are any good? thanks.

The DreamFleet Bonanza A36 includes a nice, though fictional, seaplane version. For something less modern, there's the AlphaSim Arado Ar-196; or the simTech Beech 17D, which includes wheel and float versions with numerous liveries (now freeware). If you'd like something larger, the fictional "Stratojet Albatross" is a modern jet powered flying boat (freeware, with several liveries and full VC). The PZL-104 "Wicked Wilga" is a STOL utility plane that includes a nice amphibious version (also freeware).

I actually have the Albatross, but isn't that a fictional aircraft.
The others are closer to what I'm looking for. Can you post a download link?

Also, anyone know of any others? Thanks.

I can recommend these, all currently installed in my FS9:

    Beech D17 - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=92536

    Wilga - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=96126

(there are many add-on liveries, panel mods, checklists, etc. for both planes in the libraries here)

Arado - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=124364 (also an FSX version, separate d/l)

Cessna L-19 on floats, by Massimo Taccoli - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=102434 (several repaints available)

Bellanca Scout, wheels, floats, and skis - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=70329 (also get the patch, which corrects a small texture issue)

    DH2 "Eager Beaver" - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=86891

Premier Aircraft Design Twin Otter on floats - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=121891 (several versions and repaints, search here for: twin otter floats)

Otter PZL on floats (Airtech Canada 1000hp model) - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=105211

CMASA RS14, WWII Italian twin engine floatplane - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=87363 (cockpit is a bit dated but it's a nice period aircraft)

Maule M-7, wheels, skis, amphibian - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=70014 (there's a 25meg update and numerous repaints here also)

Republic Seabee amphibian - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=141909 (many repaints)

    Nardi FN-333 - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=116711 (numerous repaints also)

DH89 Dragon Rapide on floats - http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm...ame=DH89FL.ZIP (many repaints available)

Dornier D0-X, an older model but interesting - http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=80349

If you enjoy vintage aircraft, Jens Kristensen has created many early flying boats such as the Short Singapore and Kent. There is a nice Do-26, complete with tilting engines, though the panel is a but dated. And I must mention the payware MAAM DC-3, which offers a floatplane version of this aircraft.

    Thank you so much!
    That list is very helpful.

Before a lot of troubleshooting, I would reinstall. One step at a time and be sure each works before proceeding; double check the update instructions, noting whether to move folders or just files. Make sure the base install works fine, then add just the update and check it in the sim. Then the avionics and check again.

Was it the 2D panel or VC that went black? The entire screen or just the panel?

No sound in spot view means the wav files for external sounds are either corrupt, missing, or not being called by the sound.cfg file. (After the base install, if the sounds are good, right click on the sound folder and select "add to sound.zip". If the sound gets fouled up later, right click on sound.zip - in the Maule root folder - and select "extract here", allow overwrites, and you're back to the original sounds.)

Yeah, I fixed it. I moved the folders instead of the files inside, so the folders were incomplete.
All I had to do was add the files back and it works now. Thanks.
