Looking for some honest input from someone who owns a pair of those 3D glasses. I'm thinking strongly of buying them next week and want to know if they really makes you see 3D? Your input would be greatly appriciated. thanks!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-09-02 AT 10:21PM (EDT)[p]Hi there
I assume you are refering to the one made by EDimensional? These ones got a pretty good review in a Flightsim magazine, so I decided to order them online.
Now at the time, their website stated that the "Wired Version", the ones I wanted, were compatible with ATI Radeon video cards. I own an ATI Radeon 8500, so I interpreted that as meaning these glasses would work with my card. Silly me!
Well, the glasses arrived, and they did not work! I went through a few tech support guys trying to resolve the issue, but to no avail. Finaly, they stated that it was due to my video card not being compatible. As it happens, they had made an error on their website, and they should have stated specific Radeon cards, leaving out the 8500. I was actually the one that brought the error to their attention, and they made the change that very day. I wish all support responded to our issues that quickly! Actually, their support did reply to my emails quite quickly. Unfortunately, there was no solution for me. Buyer beware.
At this point, they claim that they have me added to a list of people who they will advise once the compatibility issue is addressed, but they cannot say when. At this point they have made no offer to take the glasses off of my hands at their expense. For me to return them to the Manufacturer would cost me the shipping once again. So I have to decide... spend around $100.00 in total and have no glasses, or spend around $200.00 in total and have glasses that might eventually work... "but we don't know when"...
I paid around $108.00 Canadian dollars for the pair of glasses. On top of that, I paid around $25.00 shipping, and then received a bill from the courier asking me to pay another $45.00 in duties and taxes and brokerage fees. All this to have a pair of glasses sitting on my shelf, due to an error that I feel the Manufacturer made on their website. But oh well. I like yourself would love to see the effects of these glasses while playing Flightsim. I will just have to wait. Hey, if you end up getting them, and they work, let me know what they are like!!!
Good luck.

I have to say they work but your monitor needs to be able to refresh at about 110 or 120 at a high res like 1024x768 or whatever. If not I would suggest not getting them. I didn't really think that they are worth it. So I sold mine on ebay. Got rid of them. Also they do add depth but not really that great. So if I were you I wouldn't get them. Thats just myh opinion. Go spend the 70 buck on some real 3d flying. Its a much better buy.
I love them! They work great with my Geforce3 and Sony 19" Monitor. I use 'em for FS, racing sims, and FPSs. Very happy with them.

I absolutely love mine. They create a great effect and add wonderfuly to the sim. I love flying low in Alaska through the mountains because the effect is so cool. I have found however that it largely depends on what video card you have and what drivers you are using. I am using a nvidia Geforce 2 with their latest stereo drivers. For best results I do suggest playing around with different stereo/vid card drivers to see what works best for you. Nvidia seems pretty committed to this and has newer drivers in beta now. So, you will probably get mixed reviews across the board on this because it really depends on your system and the drivers you are using. So...My 2 cents: More than worth the money. Edimensional is a great company too. They stand by their products and are very helpful. One other thing...The glasses do take a few days to get used to. Once your eyes adjust to it, it feels totally natural.

Yep, I'm another satisfied customer! I love mine too, and after working out a problem with the video connection (had to concoct a cable to go between the card and dongle) they've been bulletproof. And I love the effect -- it really adds to the immersion.

You might want to do what I did: run stereo in anaglyph (with the red and blue/cyan glasses) first for a while. Only thing you've got to do is get yourself a pair of these carboard/cellophane glasses, which you can get either for free or for a dollar or less. I got ten of them free from our local optometrist.
Then you can decide for yourself if stero is worth your money. For me it was and is: after coupla weeks running anaglyph I bought the eDimensional glasses, and I think they're GREAT!
Do they work with movies (.avi) or DVD ?
I have no idea. If it's in either DirectX or OpenGl, the glasses work. Are movies and DVD's in DirectX or OpenGL? I'm a digital nitwit, so I dunno...
Short answer: no. The movie would have to have been shot in 3D (that is, using two offset lenses and such), and there have been very few of them. 3D works in 3D modeled environments only, and even then not all the time (see my about [link:www.flightsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID10/25315.html|post] FSDS cockpits).
