Thread: secret island

  1. Lightbulb secret island

anybody who has flown the "tokyo executive transport" mission probably knows about the secret island off the coast of japan. but i'm wondering how many people have tried to find it in free flight. but, if you take off from narita intl in tokyo (does not have to be this airport) in free flight, if you fly a heading of approx 060 degrees, you will see the island. you can also fly direct to the island with the gps by punching in intersection nanac. the secret island is about 5 mi. sse of the ifr intersection. coordinates of the runway are approx N38* 49,84' and E143* 18.32' if you look on the map in fsx, you can see weather data from the island's runway. the identifier is fs01, but don't try to start your flight there because microsoft has left it out of their airport database. also, if someone can create a freeware to include the secret island (FS01) in the database, i would be happy.

The entire island is a mission object. I can't think of a single mission object that appears in free flight.

This news surprises me, considering it's a large island and I've flown that route a jillion times.

I've also never heard anyone else mention this. This game has jillions of active users that have been flying for years now.

Wasn't the route in the mission north? I believe it was, but you say 60 degrees?

I'm very skeptical, but I'll go look.

Went to the FS01 weather reporting point in free flight. Nothing but water as far as the eye can see.
The weather point is there to allow a reference point for custom weather in the mission.
I'm afraid the scenery is only present in the mission. If you have it it must be some fluke of file placement.
If you can figure out why you have the scenery in free flight we could all have it. — Bob

it turns out, that you have to start tokyo executive transport mission. i dont think it matters how long you play it, but the mission loads the scenery onto your computor's ram memory, but when you restart fsx that scenery gets deleted automatically. also, the heading depends on where you begin your turn. from departing 34, if you make a right turn to approx 050 degrees, it will take you closer. if you wait till you are 10 mi from narita from 34, then 060 should do. what i would reccomend is to punch nanac as a waypoint and fly direct with the gps. but again, as far as i know, you have to load the mission, and only then can you find the island on free flight (you would have to do this every time you reload fsx). although, if someone could make a freeware to load the scenery automattically, that would be awesome (i assume you only need to copy some files from the scenery folder and put it into the addon scenery folder)

seems like you not only have to load the mission, but you also have to reach the island. what i would suggest is to save the mission when you get to approach for landing at the secret runway, then save a free flight when you get close to the intersection nanac. then, all i assume you would have to do is to load the saved mission, then go to free flight. also, if you create a multiplayer mission, you can fly the island somewhere in the atlantic ocean. the only bad part is that you will have to fly with either the p51 mustang or the agusta westland eh101 helicopter.

Actually, I've landed on the castle and the hangar in the Westland, but I can't land on the runway only because it's not there. I tried to reenact the approach and see if I had to fly past some trigger, only to be majorly dissappointed.

I know this thread's pretty old but would anyone still like me to add it as a permanent scenery object or have you already found a solution?

Yes please. I still haven't been able to find it anywhere

It's already been done by another person who also added the airport to FSX to. Just search something like 'FSX secret island scenery' in Google and you can find it on Simaviation.
