Default New Computer

LAST EDITED ON Jul-08-02 AT 03:46PM (EDT)[p]Hey,

I am looking at some computers and was wondering what the following might get me frame rate wise. Maybe someone has the samething?

----------------------------
P4 2.0GHz
256MB DDR SDRAM
128MB NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440G
----------------------------

If you need more just let me know I will edit the post with the added stuff.

Oh and I had a friend tell me that DDR SDRAM are to diffrent things and incobatible, but that is what it shows on the specs page.

Anywhere from 0 fps to 100 fps......its going to depend on what OS you choose and driver for your Vcard and a host of other variables, MBoards sound cards, ect.

One thing I know for sure I wouldnt waste my time with a GF4MX anything card you would be better of getting a GF3ti200 for a few dollars more or hanging out some extra cash for a ti4400.

Pay up for 512 RAM which will help a lot and if you can swing
it go for the P4 2.2a but the ram is more important. You should
run at 39 FPS locked with not a problem in the world. I suggest XP as the OS.

I think without the extra ram you will be disappointed with the
results after spending big bucks.

why lock fps at 39? the human eye can only see 32 so any higher is waisting system resorces and you will get more auto gen if ur fps limit is reached faster

I just got a quote from a local PC shop to build the following:

AMD XP-2100
ASUS A7V3333 MB
512 DDR PC2700 RAM (Samsung)
Abit GF4TI4400 AGP Video Card
Western Digital 80GB Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
Creative Labs PCI Audigy sound card
Enlight Mid=Tower w/300 Watt
MS Internet keyboard
3.5 in Drive
Windows 98 SE (or XP Home Edition)
MS Optical Mouse

All of the above assembled, tested, and a 2 year warranty for $1257 plus tax. I was going to build my own system, but I can't build it much cheaper myself.

However you do it, the combination of Motherboard, CPU and RAM have to be compatible. You need a good case with sufficient cooling. I agree that you need a better graphics board than the MX series. If you can't afford a GF4TI4400 or 4600, look for a GF3TI.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-08-02 AT 09:44PM (EDT)[p]Here is what I am looking at getting below:

Intel P4 2.0GHz w/ 512K L2 Adcanced Tranfer Cache
256MB DDR SDRAM
40GB UATA100 7200RPM HD
3.5" 1.44MB diskette drive
16x/48 DVD-ROM
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
128MB NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440G Graphics w/ TV Out
Multi Function Keyboard
Legitech USB Optical Wheel Mouse
SoundBlaster Audigy Audio /w IEEE 1394 (Firewire)

...and a whole bunch of other small parts ranging from Enternet Card to Speakers and Subwoofer

I would probibly build one on my own, but I don't want to bother with it. That is all for $1174

I was looking all over and couldn't find a DVD Drive for less than $150 and there where only a few under $250 so I think that rised the cost a bit. Other than that it all looks reasonable I think I don't mind spending a few extra bucks doesn't bother me much LOL.

I don't seem to have any problems with a MX series GF card they work fine for me. I think it gets bad rep because only the people that hate them will put in a review. Same with anything else :)

Since you dont mind spending a couple extra bucks, why not get a system like Dales? It will run over your Pentium 4 and has a better video card, motherboard, double the ram, a hard drive that is twice as big, MUCH faster processor...ect.
It looks like a pretty good deal to me.

Well this is what I just finished building a couple of weeks ago:

Pent 4 1.6 with L2 512 cache
1536 SDRAM--I had two 512's already.
32X12X40 CD-RW
1.44 floppy
ATI 32MB radeon graphics card---had already (need to upgrade)
Mid-Tower case
3 front intake fans
2 rear exhaust fans
1 memory fan
1 heatsink fan
1 fan on video card
All cables are aerodynamic type
60 gb hard drive (slave)
10 gb hard drive (master)---had already
OS-XP pro

My system is running FS2002 at 65 to 115 fps with all sliders maxed. Just three weeks ago I was running my piece of crap 433mhz system and was sometimes getting down to 1 fps which sucks! I built my system for about $400. Which is pretty ##### good, I combed the net for the best deals and whamo!!!
