A Great Night for Flying

Last night my wife hit the sack early (migraine).."why don't
you go fly, honey?" #1 daughter out with my car, #2 daughter
out..no competetion for the computer..ho ho! 8PM and it's
all mine!

Set up a flight plan with the America West 757..SEA-RNO..take
off on a beautiful late afternoon in Seattle (weather I'd
downloaded a few days ago)..nice flight to Reno..nasty crosswind
on 16R at RNO (240 at 24, if I recall correctly)..manage
to set her down after quite a struggle. Taxi to the gate,
take on some fuel, set plan RNO-PHX..take off early evening
in Reno..clear sky flight to PHX, land on 25..one of my
better landings..taxi to the gate..flying into PHX reminded
me of the many nights I rode in there on Frontier from DEN
many years ago..set up plan to SAN..got in the air, but, alas
grew a bit tired and decided to hit the sack. a 757 loaded
with pax is now stranded somewhere between PHX and SAN. Hopefully, they can continue their journey tonight!

I don't get too many of these opportunities lately, so I grab
them when I can!

I can relate, every now and then the wife goes to bed early and in my case the two year old son occasionally goes down before 8pm and I go to a simming heaven for a few hours. Hope you can finish your flight tonight.

You always seem to have an interesting flightsim story to tell. :)

It sounds like you are into flying the heavies. I am impressed that you can fly the 757. Have you downloaded any AI aircraft from project AI? Just curious...

thanks! I've got Project AI with UAL/Delta Express/USAirways/
Midway..ran into some UAL traffic out of Seattle..I love
it.

...I go back and forth 'tween the heavies and GA aircraft.

I mostly fly the 717, but I love the 757's that have recently
come out ('specially the sounds), too.

I'll get on a kick for a while and fly the Baron or Mooney..I
just recently bought the Archer and will likely get some time
in with that.

With summer here and the kids gone in the evenings much of the
time I should get a little more time for simming..of course,
I gotta pay some attention to my wife once in a while ;-)

We unfortunately had to find a new home for our golden retriever
pup (6 mos old) as he was showing some aggressive signs that
we couldn't seem to break, which frees up considerable time.

Jim,

Thanks for the response. I wasn't surprised to hear that you like to fly a variety of aircraft. The Archer seems to be a popular purchase right now but it would probably be a framerate killer on my 600mhz machine.

As for me, I like the Mooney. I am currently flying a DC-3 across the Andes mountains in Peru as part of an "adventure". It is challenging and lots of fun. I will need to check out project AI. I was hoping to see American on their list. Oh well.

I hope that you get more free time for simming. I am married but do not have children yet-something to look forward to. :)

I have a 1.2ghz system and the Archer presents some challenges
to it. I just got it Monday (the archer) and haven't had much
time to tweak/play around with it yet.

AA will come along with PAI from what I've read. Just takes
a while to program the schedule, apparently. Once past the
downloads and install, it seems to be quite a nice addition,
particularly for me who hasn't had the time to play around
with AI tools, etc.

Jim,

Sounds like you had a great night, I wish I could get on the sim a bit more as well. Do you mind if I ask what kind of FPS you get at bigger airports like SEA, RNO, and DEN? I'd like to recreate some real world flights but have always been a wreck when my FPS goes below about 27 at the larger airports, that's why I usually stick to small airports and GA.

As I recall around the airports they were in the mid-high
teens..still quite smooth. Hit some clouds during climbout
from SEA that slowed things down a bit.

I'd forgotten that I had to do a missed at RNO..I hadn't
descended enough when they cleared me for final and I would
have had to nose dive to the runway. Declared a missed and
came around and gave it another try..

Y'all can exhale now...I finished the flight to SAN last night..
broke out of overcast about 1400' and made a rather nice landing..such that I had to replay it a few times ;-)
