Thanks for all of your replies. Just thought I'd show my FSX graphics, so you can see them instead of having to imagine them.

Adam ... if I read your initial post correctly you have 2Gb of RAM.

Whilst the other components are not current bleeding edge, your system is likely to be choking even with just Windows and FSX running.(which version of Win BTW?)

Minimal upgrade: 4Gb of RAM (no point in having any more with a 32bit OS)

If you are upgrading beyond this, then I think you really are looking at changing core components to a new Phenom / i7 architecture.

IMO, upgrading isolated bits with what you have at this stage is probably throwing money at something that will always be outdated.

Incidentally with detailed add-on scenery and aircraft, the bottleneck now seems to be memory bandwidth, rather than raw CPU power.

FRAPS will bring your FPS down bigtime so it's not helping when you are trying to get a smooth FSX. As others have said already, you need to move sliders to the LEFT, not right. If you want to see a big difference in performance, get more RAM, a new system is not necessary yet, try that first. Your OS is using most of the 2 gigs you have just to run the OS.

Ok, reading over everyone's replies, here is my plan.

    1) 2GB of RAM upgraded to 4GB or 6GB.
    2) Windows Vista 32bit upgraded to Windows 7 64bit.
    3) Instead of buying a new processor, over-clock my current one and buy water-cooling.
    4) When I have the money, buy a Asus GTX 590.

Do you think this is a good idea?
    Thanks guys.

You don't need to buy a top end graphics card unless you are also planning on playing Crysis 2 or some other game. A GeForce GTX 460 would be more than enough for FSX.

Wow this was an eye opener and it tweaked my system quite a bit, and i like what i see but i tried to add that FPS limiter. I down loaded it and then when i tried to install it, it flashed a couple of times and i don't know if it did or did not install it. Can i look at something to see if it was installed? You give some amazing advise about things I never even think to ask about. I always look for yor stuff. I been coming here for a while but never heard of venetubo before. Thanks.

I read OPA's comment about venetubo and went there and it tweaked my system with significant improvement and i though it was good before. But i did have a lil installation issue as the venetubo site recommended i download a FPS lmiiter wihich i did.

Lenovo h215, 2 dual core 2.56's, Nvidia, 250 GTS video care, 4 gig of ram 640 HDD. sorry about the confusion.
