    Default TITLE= is missing in every scenery.cfg entry - including default

    My scenery library is in great shape and I had never had problems with it. Lot's of add on entries that always worked perfectly.

    Yesterday I added a new scenery area. The database was updated. I shut down FSX and restarted it - all the scenery was still there and the SETTINGS - SCENERY LIBRARY window looked "normal" except for one minor detail. The last scenery entry I had added did not have any text in the Scenery Area column and the Scenery Area Title box that you get when you edit an area was blank.

    But - the new scenery seemed to work OK.

    I started and stopped FSX many times and spent a lot of time flying around the new scenery. I eventually decided I didn't like the new scenery and deleted that one area using the normal SETTINGS - SCENERY LIBRARY Delete Area button. The scenery data base rebuilt OK.

    I again flew all over my FSX world with no problems.

    I then decided to add another new scenery item. When I went into SETTINGS - SCENERY LIBRARY I realized the Scenery Area column was now blank for every scenery area - including all the default areas and my expensive ORBX addons.

    When I Edit Area I see the correct Directory name for each scenery area but the Title Box is blank - for every area in my FSX world.

    When I look at Allusers scenery.cfg I find that the Title= entry is missing, there is none!, for every scenery area - including the FSX defaults. I look in my scenery.cfg backup and the Title= entries are all there as expected.

    The problem is that my most current backup is old - very old.

    QUESTIONS:

    1) How did the Title= line for every scenery area get deleted?

    2) Is there a way to get those Title= lines back in scenery.cfg without reinstalling all my addons?

    3) How do I get the Title= back in for all the FSX default scenery items?

    HELP!

    FSX works fine and my ORBX add ons, my Hawaiian PhotReal scenery, all of my nice freeware Swiss scenery, Misty Fjords, etc is still in place and shows up in FSX - I just can't easily find an particular entry in the SETTINGS - SCENERY LIBRARY

    1) Dunno
    2) Add them with Notepad (really doesn't matter what you type, just make it sensible for yrself). Just don't change anything except for adding the title.
    3) Ditto, add with notepad. No matter how old your backup is, you'll certainly find the default entries in it for reference.

    As always, make backups first...

    I'm not sure if Missions require the "Title" of scenery files to match like they do for Aircraft.
    To alleviate that possibility, you can open both your old backup and the missing title version and copy the titles over, for at least the defaults...Don

    I was hoping for a less labor intensive answer - I have 257 areas.

    Sorry for the maybe rude answer, but in that case just leave it as it is. FSX won't crash on scenery entries without a title.

    Btw in my C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX folder there's an OldScenery.cfg file. Dunno what made that, and what's it's purpose, but it looks pretty up-to-date as well.
    Running Vista32 just like you.

    Maybe you can read this topic : http://forum.simflight.com/topic/523...enerycfg-file/

    For me it was a excellent solution.

    wow, this same thing happened to me yesterday. without getting into detail about what I was doing, the problem you are describing is exactly what I had. Everything worked fine but not one item in my world/scenery library was visible just as you have described.

    Here is what I did .......I ran system restore, I had a saved restore point fairly new so I ran the restore function, the result for me was for some reason the restore function could not restore my system to the eariier point I chose.

    When I went back to FSX and checked my scenery library all my entries were visible again.I really dont know how it was fixed all I can think of is that while the computer was going thru whatever it does to restore something must have tickled my FSX settings because when I went back to FSX all 639 scenery entries were back again.

    Now you say that your backup is old but you could run system restore to that date and when it is done simply immediatly restore back to your current system and check FSX

    I have no idea how the scenery file was fixed but it was.

    CFG-files (so also scenery.cfg) are considered "to be part of the system" by Windows System Restore.
    So ALL FSX cfg-files will be restored as well to the date of the recovery point. "A CFG is a CFG, no matter what program it belongs to", says Windows...

    Which also means addon AC installed after the restore point will LOOSE all their CFG-files (aircraft, panel, sound, ...).
    System recovery simply deletes them. This means in most cases you have to reinstall those AC.

    CFG files modified after the restore point will be put to original.

    Remember once having lost quite some panel modif work 'cos of a panel.cfg bein' restored to original by a system restore.

    Thanks for all the suggestion - more ideas offered - more I learn

    I had already tried the fsscenery utility and it worked as advertised but did not restore the titles.

    I forced FSX to rebuild the indexes but that did not restore the titles.

    Eventually I found an not to old copy of the scenery.cfg (with all the title- lines in place) that one of the last scenery addon installers had made - that copy had almost all my difficult and time consuming addons in it so I just renamed it to scenery.cfg and allowed FSX to rebuild the scenery library. I was only missing a couple recent, easy, addons.

    This turned out to be a very beneficial problem!!

    While looking thru my current, title missing, scenery.cfg I found about 50 areas were defined that were using .bgl files created by tileproxy. Those areas were spread around throughout the .cfg file and it took some searching to find all of them.

    [Area.144]
    Local=G:\TileProxyPhotoRealWorldCache\TileProxy Photoreal World\0004
    Active=TRUE
    Required=FALSE
    Layer=144

    I do use tile proxy quite a bit but I had always thought that those areas were deleted when I shut down tile proxy. I thought that EITHER "normal" FSX scenery (.bgl) was used or "tileproxy" scenery (.bgl created by tileproxy as it was downloaded from the web source) was used. I did not realize that some (all??) the tileproxy .bgl files continued to be used even if tileproxy was not running.

    Can anyone clarify this question? Does the use to tileproxy mean that those .bgl files will always be used until manually deleted?

    Hi,

    They are only used when TileProxy is running.
    Thanks,
