Thread: A2A Piper Cub - downloaded ' Fast Joe' repaint doesn't show

  1. Default A2A Piper Cub - downloaded ' Fast Joe' repaint doesn't show

    Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum, new to sims, and even new to PCs having been a Mac person for many years. Ive still managed to successfully instal a couple of freeware planes as well as the A2A Cub. I'm running Windows 7 with the FSX Expansion Pack.

Anyway, I downloaded the 'Maloney' Fast Joe's Taxi repaint for the cub. The download came with 4 folders, 5 jpg photos (all the same - identical to the thumbnail included in one of the folders) and a READ ME. The READ ME said to copy the folders into the sim objects/ aircraft file and to select 'yes' when asked for permission to overwrite. Simple enough. However when I go to Freeflight / change aircraft ('all variations' ticked), the repaint plane doesn't show. Am i doing something wrong?

You normally should not overwrite the aircraft.cfg file. This will pave over any other add-on paints you may have.

Every new paint should come with a section of text starting with [fltsim.xx]

You open the aircraft.cfg file with a plain-text editor (notepad.exe will do) and add the new section below the last paint you have, then change the XX to the next number in sequence and save. This will add the paint (Fast Joe) in this case to the selection menu and will tell FSX where to find the textures you downloaded (in this case referred to by the texture=fastjoe line below).

Its design is one of the most fundamental expressions of the basic, primal relationship between pilot and airplane; and few airplanes define “stick and rudder” more faithfully and distinctly than does the Cub."

Did the readme include a section to be copied and pasted into the aircraft.cfg?
Without a [fltsim.X] section for the livery there, the sim doesn't know it exists. The author generally includes it for a repaint.
The following should help you understand what should be there.
    Code:

    [fltsim.X]
title=falcon50 CAEA NC Title MUST be completely unique throughout the sim
sim=falcon5X Name of xxxx.air file, preceding the dot-air
model=cv Model folder extension, after the dot
panel= Panel folder extension, after the dot
sound= Sound folder extension, after the dot
texture=caea Texture folder extension, after the dot
kb_checklists=Falcon5X_Check Checklist, can be htm, txt, etc.

    Thanks everyone

The Read Me did come with the aircraft.cfg text - being a newb I thought that was for advanced users or something. Anyway I wasn't able to save the changes using notepad - said something like "airplane.cfg already exists. Do you want to replace it?" and when I clicked "yes" it said "access denied." My frustration grows....

Changed security settings and was able to modify cfg (I'm learning as I go along). the Plane now shows and looks great. Thanks again everyone!
