This is an annoying thing about FSX. The only way i have found is it keep setting them up or use FSUIPC4 ( which is payware ) to remember my controls

You can set up your controls to your liking in FSX, and while the Sim is running, open "Standard.XML" and "Save As" a different name.
That will give you a file that you can open then "Save As" "Standard.XML" before running the sim.
That should alleviate having to configure your controls for every session...Don

Win 7=C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\Controls, Standard.XML(Subfolder of FSX folder that has fsx.cfg)

saving a flight as your default flight will keep all control panel type settings.

Fxsttcb, need a little clarification here. I'm able to find the Standard.xml file in my Windows 7 but, how do I save it correctly? Do I double click on it to open it first? Which program do I use to open it with? I've used Notepad and it saves it as a Text Document. Is that ok?

When you open it via Notepad then "Save As", in the save window set the "Save as type:" to all files, "encoding:" to UTF-8, and give it a name such as Helo-Standard.xml
When you open Helo-Standard.xml, before the next time you fly, save IT as Standard.xml
I have a few saved that way including a "Standard-Normal.xml" so I can return to my basic controls set-up...Don

Dang, I opened FSX and as usual, none of my changes took. Not sure what I may have gotten wrong.

Question, why can't you just save it as Standard.xml instead of saving it under another name? Maybe this is where I went wrong. Do I have to close the existing open FSX, then change the name to Standard.xml before opening it again?

    Trying again.

(Edit) Ran again with same results. Seems no matter what I do it's reverting back to the same old default set up. It takes me probably 10 minutes worth of changes to get it right each time I run fsx.

I've read this post: "http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?224288-Saving-FSX-amp-Control-configuration-files" but haven't been able to find the location he states his "Control" settings are saved. He states his are saved not in the normal location. I've looked but can't find "Users\Documents\FSX" . If I go into "C", "Users" there is no "Document" file in there.
