Thread: Approach Plates on iPad

  1. Default Approach Plates on iPad

I'm struggling for a good way to get my approach plates on my ipad. There isn't a good app that will do it.

I would like to have Navigraph provide one but they don't.

I came accross http://on-final.com which allows you to download a PDF of all charts at a given airport but this is only USA based.

I am looking for something like this for Europe.

Can anyone confirm if there is a such a site? I am looking for freeware if at all possible and if not it needs to be quite cheap..

    Thanks
    Mark

Check the AOPA website, they have info and links if you poke around. There are lots of apps, some free, some pay.

    Mark,

    Take a look at this:

    http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showth...pproach-Plates

This might help you out in finding approach plates in .pdf form. Like Gandy suggested; pick up Adobe Reader. I would think that Adobe made a FREE an app for the iPad, since Adobe reader is free for every other platform.

I'm doing the same thing, but on a different device; the Amazon Kindle eBook reader. I can I can cut/ paste .pdf's into the Kindle's Documents Folder, and bring them up. I use it mainly for airport diagrams and checklists.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks...

Is there an iPad app that is built to work with EUROCONTROL as using their website is not the best.

Can you bulk download charts on this site? Was hoping to get all charts for a certain airport in 1 PDF..

If there is anything else then please let me know...

I use an app called GoodReader, which enables you to download and organize PDFs into folders and subfolders. I mainly use it to store cases and legislation for work, but it's readily adaptable to charts.

Just do search for the airport name and charts on your iPad. For example....EHAM charts will produce lots of hits. Do the search on your ipad. The first hit allows you to view the whole list of charts for EHAM as a PDF...it will open as it downloads. Just touch the top of the iPad under the URL bar on the right and you will see it gives you the option to open in iBooks. Just ok and it will save in iBooks as a pdf. It will now be a part of your iBook collection. However you will not be able to make any changes to the PDF such as name it,etc.. If you have a lot of PDF it can get messy. Not the most elegant solution but it works.
On a side note I just found out about the Sportys appproach plate app. This is only for the US only. They give you the first month free and you have unlimited downloads. However the free month only allow you to download one airport at a time. But you can get as many as you want.
After the first month it's $60.00 for the year. I am thinking about it as it adds a whole new dimension to your flight sim. Check it out. Hope this help.
