Thread: Is this computer enough for smooth playing with FSX?

  1. Default Is this computer enough for smooth playing with FSX?

    Hi,
I´m from Germany, so don´t be surprised if this English is not as good as yours.

I´m planning to buy a new computer and decided to take these components:

    processor: Intel Core i5-2500K
    mainboard: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3
    RAM:: 4096 MB - DDR3-1333
    videocard: Geforce GTX570 with 1280MB and GDDR5
    direct X11
    harddrive: 1000GB (32MB Cache, 7200U/min, SATA II)
    drive: 22x DVD-burner
    power adapter with 560W •140mm fan • active PFC • connections: 1x 20/24-pin, 1x 4/8-pin ATX12V, 1x 6/8-pin PCIe, 1x 6-pin PCIe, 6x SATA, 2x

Do you think that this system is enough to play FSX with REX in highest settings without lagging?

Thank´s for your answers in advance.

PS: I hope my expressions are reasonably right and clear.

I don't think any PC is good enough to use FSX with every setting at max with no stutters.

However, the system you propose would be pretty good with most settings near to max subject to making a tweaks or two here and there with the fsx.cfg and maybe the operating system.

Most of all, to get the best out of FSX, you will need to overclock that i5 to around 4 GHz, so better get a good aftermarket cooler to go with it.

    IAN
    Q9550 @ 3.78 GHz with Gainward GTX570 1.25 Gig DRAM
    4 Gig DDR2 RAM - Windows 7 64 Bit
    FSX SP2

Running FSX at highest settings will tax even the most powerful systems especially when flying near major cities/airports. That said, the system you are considering will run FSX reasonably well at somewhere between medium and high settings. And Ian is right in suggesting that over-clocking will yield a worthwhile performance increase.

Bigger concern - the Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3 is currently being recalled because of a defect in Intel's 6-series chipset. More here regarding Gigabyte's recall. Its a similar situation with 6-series chipset motherboards from other manufacturers as well with replacements not being available until at least April by the looks of things. Suggest you bring this to the attention of the supplier of the system you are considering.
