Default FS2004 freezes image but sound still works

Hey people. I am getting this issue where it would freeze the image (video) im looking at on FS9. No matter what airport im at, this happens. This issue happened today when i recently installed Alpha India AI plans but they didnt work. This caused my flight sim to CTD after i loaded the flight. The only way i can fix it temparaly is going to view settings then pressing ok. Can somebody please help me?

    Hi,

Try the 10.12 video drivers for your video card.
    Thanks,

    Jim

I rececntly updated the drivers a week before this happened. I have Windows Update take care of updating my video car drivers. I also need a new default traffic BGL file because i currupted it with the Delta airlines flight plans from Alpha India that made FS9 CTD. My email is on my profile. I also deleted all traffic files and reinstalled them. I fixed the CTD problem but it didnt get rid of this "image Freezing" problem.

Can't help with the image freezing issue but would suggest that there is no need to add additional flightplans to the existing default Traffic file. FS2004 allows you to have as many individual Traffic files as you may want - they just have to be named uniquely.

For example, if you create a new set for Delta, you could name the elements as airports_Delta.txt, aircraft_Delta.txt and flightplans_Delta.txt. When compiled with Traffic Tools the resulting bgl would be named Traffic_Delta.bgl.

That method makes trouble shooting far easier in my opinion.

If you use packages such as those from World of AI, you will see that is how they do it (automatically).

If you still need to restore the original default Traffic file (traffic030528.bgl), it is located on Disk 4, in the World.cab. Any cab file can be opened and files extracted using any good zip/unzip utility. It should be placed in your Scenery/World/scenery subfolder of course.

    Hope those thoughts are useful.

newer driver does not always mean better driver. i am not familiar with your video card, but a.) JSkorna i see is a moderator and has been a member here since 1999 so you can assume he has a lot of knowledge/experience on flightsim, and b) he seems to know enough about your video card to recommend an exact driver number to try. if it were me, I would check if my driver version was 10.12, and if not i would install that and then try it to see if it solved my issue.

Well the reson why i said that is because i dont know how to check my drivers on my video card. I recently update it with the software part of it to. Its from January so yeah... Im lucky that i backed up the data of the FS9 disks on my external 1TB HDD. I pulled the default traffic off there. Il give it a go and see what happens.
Here is what a screenshot looks like. Its paused but its not showing the black or froozen fraps FPS numbers. Sometimes the status line of numbers at the top dont show when ever messages like "door closing/opening" appear or even FS Real tiem updating.

Alright. I seriously would need to get this problem fixed ASAP. When i switch from spot view to 2D panel the panel and the view window of the ouside within the 2D window "stick to the screen". This also happens with every aircraft i got. This is after i corrupted my default traffic file with MRAI and Delta airlines Aplha India files. Everytime i switch views it freezes. When the messages appear from FS Real Time, Auto Tower 2.1.1, or "exit door closing or opening, tailhook, wingfold," basically any green status message that appears like that freezes the image on the screen. Please guys, help me. I did an update to my video card but wasnt sure what it was.

It sure sounds as if one or more of your "enhancements" of one kind or another is conflicting - so you may need to spend some time uninstalling or disabling various additions (FS Real Time, Auto Tower to name but two) and even aircraft and scenery and test.

Once you get it working correctly again, then add items back in, one at a time, and test - sooner or later the culprit should rear it's ugly head again.

Tedious I know, but perhaps the only way to track it down short of of a complete clean re-install (and that should be the absolute last resort).

    Good Luck!

mrai and alpha-india do not modify your default traffic file at all, they create new files, so your default file would not be corrupted by using them. in your main flight sim directory go to scenery\world\scenery. the default traffic file will be there, traffic030528.bgl, all other traffic files will be traffic*****.bgl. you can remove or rename them easily enough to see if it resolves your problem. i have gotten bad ai files before, but it did not give me the problem you have, it made my fs ctd.

if you click start and then in the box type "device manager", that will open the device manager. you will see display adapters there, click it and then it will show your installed display device. right click on your display device and select properties. a new box opens with a tab that says driver on it. click that and you will see the version driver you have. there is also an option there to rollback to the previous driver if you think the new driver may be causing your problem.
