    Default Locked Brakes

This is probably not correct protocol but I don't know what else to do. I had an old post that is now on page five titled "Locked brakes and other events" with my last reply on 1/05/11 but was not able to resolve it with the advice given up to that time. Since then I've solved the "other events" problem very likely by happenstance. I removed all the add-on files that had accumulated over time leaving just the default aircraft and uninstalled and reinstalled the program. This got rid of the loss of control problem and the weird lighting around the tail light. But the locked brakes problem is still there. I have a short video of it and could send it to someone's email if that would help. As it stands now I just simply can't use the program.

Brakes are typically on by way of joystick key 1, (trigger) and period key. If these are not coded anymore in the Options-Settings-Controls then you can't unlock parking brakes either. You could check to see if they are - sometimes resetting to default or removing a key assignment and then assigning it again will 'fix' a weird feature occurrance.

Thank you for trying but, I'm sorry to say that didn't work either. I noticed that the default setting for the parking brake was Ctrl+, shouldn't it be a period? Anyway, I'm getting pretty discouraged. Guess I'll have to do all of my flying with floats. I may try one more thing although I hate to doing it because it's a lot of work saving recent new files etc. or lose them and that's a total restore.

On mine, the default for Parking Brakes IS CTRL + . (period) If yours is showing something different, try changing the assignment to CTRL + . (period).

Thank you, I see the difference now. The Brake on/off key is a simple "period" while the parking brake is a Ctrl+ with a "period" But, I've tried removing and reinstalling both and went to just default also and nothing corrects the problem.

Have you tried renaming your FSX.cfg file (to disable it) and then starting FSX?

Doing so will force FSX to rebuild the file using all of the original default settings. Perhaps worth a shot if you have not tried that already.

And have you told us what Operating System you are using? If Win 7 or Vista there may be a permissions issue which needs to resolved also.

Find whatever other keys, buttons or devices ALSO have a `brakes` effect and reverse the axes. It's easy to find out how.

The only things I could find relating to brakes under the Control Axis tab were Brake (right) and Brake (left) and neither had any assignments so I couldn't change them.

As for the FSX.cfg file, that was recommended in response to my original post on 1/4 which is now way back on page 7. I tried that and it didn't work but, if it's of any help, I reported back, "I found the file and did as instructed but, sorry to say, it didn't solve the problem. However, it failed in a strange way. When I started FSX again the Cessna still showed the flashing square of light centered on the red tail light but took off smoothly with no locked brake effect. On landing I sort of landed next to the runway and started throwing up clods of dirt. When I pulled over to taxi on the runway it continued to throw up the dirt. I exited FSX and started it again and this time, when attempting to take off was back to white clouds of debris and smoke."

My system: Windows XP with a 2.00 gig AMD Athlon 64 X2 DualCore Processor, 1.00 gig RAM; NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS card and MS SideWinder Precision 2 joystick.

Check again under the joystick assignments - often the `fire` button is chosen automatically as the brakes (all) key.

Yes, the trigger on the joystick is assigned to the Brake (apply/release) function as Button 01 but I couldn't conceive of it having an "axis" nor is it under the Control Axis tab. But, I saw the little check box labeled (do the action when released) so I checked it with the thought, well. that reverses it. Unfortunately, all that did was give me no brakes. It did one other thing, however, I now no longer could use my mouse to actuate anything in the tool bar - Flights, Aircraft, etc. and had to Ctrl/Alt/Del to exit FSX. Weird! It's definitely the parking brake function that has something wrong with it. There appears to also be something drastically wrong with my FSX installation but, other than try another uninstall and reinstall, I have no idea what to do. Thanks anyay guys, I appreciate your having tried to help..
