    Exclamation FSX problems with Windows 7

    TROUBLE!!! I have recently bought a new HP Pavilion with Windows 7. There is a serious and frustrating problem. All the time, when i am in a flight and try to access the menu, FSX freezes and there is an "FATAL ERROR" notice showing up. Also, when trying to change an aircraft during flight, it also crashes FSX. Threre is also a number of addons that will not work on FSX in Windows 7:

    WILCO SERIES 1/SERIES 2: When loading up the aircraft, there is an audible error sound and FS shuts down.
    PMDG MD-11/B747: When loading up the aircraft, FS freezes and crashes.

    * Captain Sim 727
    * Captain Sim 757
    * Captain Sim 767
    * FS CoPilotx
    * FS Inn x

    All these do not work properly. I also searched the internet and also found out that numerous other Flight Simmers have trouble playing FS on Windows 7. I tried to tweak the cfg. file, change the game resolution but nothing works. I understand that FSX was released in 2006 but for one thing, Microsoft has not released any updates since FSX Service Pack 2. I also installed Acceleration on it but it does not make a difference. As a conclusion, it is Windows 7 that is not compatible with FSX. Me and a lot of other Simmers have this problem but we cant find a solution.

    I will kindly ask and appreciate anyone who can help find a way to fix this. In the meantime I am too trying to find a way.

    did you install FSX into win7's default /programs directory?

    is UAC on?

    are SP1 and SP2 correctly installed?

    do you first load a default FS aircraft before using choosing a addon?

    Hi AA,
    Try this, right click on your fsx icon and then click compatibility...choose XP service pack 3. That should fix the problem with your Wilco 1 and 2, and, just maybe, stabilize the system. It may be of little comfort , but i have 7 and it runs fine for me. I understand that FSX was designed primarily for Vista, and 7 is just Vista without all the bugs.
    Good luck.

    Hi.

    I had the same problem with Wilco series 1. I had to re-install fsx in it's own directory. I.e. C:\fsx once I had done this Wilco installed and worked just fine. Apparently fsx has issues if you install into the program directory x86 that win 7 automatically gives you.

    Hope it helps

    Steve.

    Those are User Acct Control issues and will be alleviated by installing FSX outside of Program Files as noted.
    To accomplish installs without having to re-install FSX elsewhere, TEMPORARILY disable UAC and / or try login as administrator.
    Logging in as a user with administrator priveledges may not work.
    Right clicking on an installer and "Run As Administrator" may work also...Don

    Do a search for uiautomationcore.dll. You need to download an older version of the file than what Windows 7 comes with and place it in the FSX directory. Here's one thread with a link part way through.

    FSX will run just fine on Windows 7. As others have mentioned, make sure to install the sim outside of the default Program Files directory. You can also use the guide below to help get the sim set up properly for your system.

    ryanb727,

    You should start separate thread in either the Newcomers or FS2004 forums. Many here will be glad to help, but most will miss your question where it currently is.

    Just come over this old thread and saw that somebody is running W7 with 3 GB!!!! That's way not enough RAM!!! Even with 4 GB W7 won't run with a good performance. I recommend 6 GB or better 8 GB.
    Maybe this may help some reader.
