Thread: Abacus scenery shortcut

  1. Default Abacus scenery shortcut

This looks like a great free program. However it first assumes that you can get SDK sp1a installed if running acceleration which I am running the acceleration addon in win seven 64 bit. I have tried editting the dll.xml and tried removing other addons. I made sure I had the .net requirements and think I have followed most of the directions. I have checked the path in dll.xml and the path is correct. It seems like my only hope would be to uninstall fsx and acceleration and my addons and try doing a ground up re install.

I _______________________reallly_____________________________ dont want to do that. I am more likely to wait for a few extra bucks and by the flight1 scenery placement tool. I had the first version of that and it worked really well. and also the demo works well on both fs9 and fs10.

So the long and the short is, any suggestions would be ____________greatly _______________ appreciated.

The primary problem here is that tools do not show in my menu.

I too have the problem of the tool menu item not being there in spite of the fact that the SDK installed properly and allows me to place objects and compile using FSDS3.5.1. I would appreciate some direction on this as well. I have run the ADE system analysis and all appears correct. I am running FSX acceleration on a Windows 7 64 bit system with everything installed in my D: drive away from the dreaded programmes(86x) directory.

I am also running on a French system but with regional settings set to use decimals.

First question - Are you not seeing the Tool Menu at all (at the top of your screen) or is just the Object Placement Tool not a selection on it?

    Please clarify.

Also it is vital that you have the proper SDK version installed.

This thread has an excellent chart showing exactly what you should have depending upon your FSX setup:

David, I do not have any tools menu at all at the top of my screen within FSX. I have followed the installation procedures in the FSdeveloper wiki stringently except for the fact that I have installed in a seperate drive to avoid having to disable the security functions of Windows 7.

My FSDS is fully functional and I have no trouble creating scenery bgl(s directly from FSDS. The only 'extra' item displaying is FSUIC. I have used the ADE utility to test my installation and have no errors showing. I certainly would like to be able to use the library object placement tool but am at a loss as to how to proceed. Is it something that has to be installed seperately like the SDK?

The Menu bar will display when you are in Windowed Mode or press the ALT key.

Here is a link to an excellent Illustrated Tutorial by Luis Féliz-Tirado describing how to use the FSX Object Placing Tool:

    Hope that helps.

Sorry to bump this thread, but it is relevant. I've just started trying using Scenery Shortcut, and was having similar problems as described above, and I think I have found the issue. I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit, so after installing Scenery Shortcut, followed the instructions to edit the dll.xml file as needed. SDK kits installed as needed and as instructed (including the Acceleration version). But still no "Tools" link would appear.
After scratching my head for a couple of hours I had a look in the dll.xml file again, and noticed that the file links to the SDK tools was truncated. So in my case all I had (as one example) was <Path> . .\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path> (note the truncated two dots at the beginning)
What it should have been (for my PC at least) was <Path>c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path> . Same went for the other lines. Note Win 7 64 Bit has two Program file directories as well, one normal, and the other with (X86) on the end. After fixing up the truncated directories in the file the Tools option appeared in FSX :-)

    Hope this helps others.

Ahhh Windows 7, 64 bit... It's driving me nuts! I'm sure Microsoft built it do destroy all of their previous software applications to plant a new revenue tree. I can't get anything to run smoothly in it when it comes to FSX... Everything looks different and I can not figure out how to get the Tools Tab to come up on the FSX menu. For one I can't even find a fsx.cfg file in my main FSX folder... Where is it when installed in Windows 7? I found the dll.xml in the Missions Creation kit but that's about as far as I can find anything listed in the Make Scenery with the Object Placement tutorial. What am I missing???
