Control settings won't save

First time this has happened in FS9 or FSX. I customize control settings and even save the flights but when I restart the program the controls are back at default. I can't find a control.cfg file so I don't know how to fix this.
I appreciate you assistance.

Sounds like you don't have the correct permissions set for the files to be saved but it is impossible to advise based on this little information. Please try again.

If you exit by Ctrl+C you may lose your saved settings, also if you fly a different saved flight eg, between sinlge, two or found engine aricraft may cause problems. You have not said what cotrol devices such as CH, Saitek but I have learned to set my Saitek up so I can retain my settings between aircraft

Also if you unplug the USB connection and plug it back into a different USB port you will lose your settings.

Thank you everyone. It seems to have fixed itself. Computers are killing me but I'm hooked!!!
