Default Navigraph - What's the advantage over the default?

    Hey all,

    Just a question -

I use Flgihtsim Commander for my flight planning needs, and see that it supports Navigraph usage.

I'm just looking for a little bit of everyone's two cents before trying it myself. What's the advantage to upgrading to Navigraph? How does that work?

Seems a tad confusing when you read their choices online on what to download and be able to update -

Thanks in advance for any explanations.

The AIRAC Cycles update FSCommander to use the latest SIDs & STARs for airports. Default FS does not have any of these, so you basically have to input all the way points by hand.

Also, if you are flying any payware aircraft that have FMCs, i.e. PMDG, Level-D, Captain SIM, Wilco, etc. the AIRAC cycles update your FMC with the latest SIDS, STARs, approaches, etc.

    Ah, I see -

So it's basically for the SIDs and STARS only?

I like that idea, since it does bring FS one step closer to reality for me as well. I do use Payware, and getting into Wilco's Piaggio now - (life's too short to be flying the little Tomahawk low and slow all the time, though I really enjoy her but have to move on a bit) I want to get into a broader variety of things, and start doing things the right way, (SIDS, STARS, Noise restrictions, etc)

navigraph's information is up to data ... FS is not. FSX is mid-2005 if i remember correctly.

the result is there will be references to things that do not exist in the FS world ... such as the 3rd runway at KSEA. unless you update the scenery/location you fly to match the real-world situation navigraph data presents you must 'transpose' information into the game ... fairly simple at KSEA, more difficult at KORD.

    Hi John,

You only need it if you want to replicate current real world procedures, with the limitation that FSX doesn't have some fixes, VOR's and intersection since it has data that is old as D.Scobie indicates!

    Best wishes,

    Julio

Thanks Julio, and I want it as close as possible, and for functionallity wise as possible for features of Flight Sim Commander familiarity.

    Thanks all! Much appreciated! .

Downloaded and instaled. Should be interesting what happens....
