    Exclamation DirectX 9.0c problem

I recently went to load up FS9 and received this error. (Worded exactly as the error box put it)

    ERROR - FS9
"Flight Simulator cannot run because the version of Mircosoft DirectX installed on your computer is incompatible. Please reinstall DirectX 9.0 by running the Flight Simulator Setup, or download the current version from www.microsoft.com/directx."

So I checked out a few other programs that use DirectX, FSX, FS2002, FS98 (yes I still have it, kinda fun for comparing it to later versions) CFS3, , and every one of them loaded without a complaint or hassle, though CFS3 took a little persuasion. I have not added, nor taken anything off my computer and it was working yesterday perfectly. The only thing I have done to my PC is turn it off and turn it back on again. Tried reinstalling DX9, says it has the most current version and in the dxdiag thing no problems at all, all tests work fine. I suspect something in FS9's directory has gone to pot.

    Specs are:
    Windows XP SP3
    Pentium Dual Core @ 3Ghz
    ATi HD4650 graphics card

Advance thanks for those who help.

maybe try to delete your fs9.cfg (make a backup 1st) and then run fs9 and let it create a new cfg file, see if that resolves it.

    Hello,

You may have a slightly corrupt file, I would download and install DX9.0c
AFAIK useless .. as OP write:

    Red face

    I also had this problem.
Got rid of Avira, and now FS9 works.

    Regards.
My sincerest apologies for posting useless information. I'll not do so again.

But I had troubles with DX in XP a couple of times and, while dxdiag reported all was well, a reinstall cleared up the problem. Since each new version of DX is backwards compatible, it is quite possible to have a corrupt file affect only DX9. Older software, only requiring DX8, may function normally.

Indeed that can happen and indeed a new DirectX version is backward compatible .. so far.
About the differents versions it's better to not install a lower version of DirectX over a higher .. that can cause troubles.
So ..uninstalling DirectX is useless and can also cause troubles

    Regards.
