I have currently go avast free edition on my w7 laptop and have only had I think 1 virus and it was dealt with very effetively.

I am building a new pc in the next few weeks and I will definitely installing it on that one.

    Nathan.

P.S. I run a full scan at about 12 midnight on a monday night and run boot time scans about once a week.

i have to disagree with the use of avg. if your a heavy gamer like me avast isn't good. cause it causes lag like you would not believe. i use MSSE. it's in the back ground. but it does not use up resourses like avg does.

running AVG is like running a Trojan Portal on your PC. It's one of the most retarded antivirus ever...you receive virus warnings every time except when your PC really gets infected. Or you don't get any warnings at all and that's why people say it's good "Hey, I didn't got any virus alert but my PC is dead!". Now I'm sure someone will disagree with me but I'm sure people who are running AVG say that they never got a virus alert or the scan results were perfect, but they still have to reinstall Windows because it doesn't run good anymore.

My choice is Bitdefender (I know it's not free) and from personal experience, I never had a virus or had to reinstall Windows because of one. You can even click on an infected item and your PC will be just fine

well i have to agree on avg thats why i gave it the boot. now for bitdefender. how much does that cost? cause norton needs a paid subscription. but norton sucks worse then a jet engine at full throttle.

Microsoft Security Essentials for me. I have tried them all and it seems to be the least intrusive.
