    Hi,

I've always been a fan of AVG, and while I've always trusted it to get the job done of late it seems to have become a little bulky and the nag screens are starting to get up my nose. So, recently I've switched to Microsoft Security Essentials. It seems fairly light-weight, and runs in the background without being too annoying.

I've found both AVG and MS Security Essentials good at dealing with viruses and other assorded nasties. I just found that the latest version of AVG has a few too many nag screens, etc. MSSE on the otehr hand just sits there and only pops up when needed. In the past I've always been critical of MS software, but of late they really seem to have turned themselves around and have started producing some great free stuff.

I been using MSSE on my company's laptops without issue for the last year or so. The users prefer it because they can mostly forget it's there.

I can recommend both AVG and MSSE as very capable Antivirus software. It's just that AVG has a few more nag screens and adverts in the free version.

I have F-Secure now which is a bit of a drain on resources, but haven't had a problem in the 2 years I've ben running it. It's not free though.

Prior to that I ran for many years with AVG and found it to be reliable and low on resource usage too.

I used to use the Norten/Symantec family of products until the cost got prohibitive. My "go to, IT friend" put me onto MS Security Essentials about a year ago. He uses it on all the computers he services. It's free (something nice from Microsoft), and works very well. Uses very little RAM, and only a tiny load on the CPU. So processor "sharing" with programs is very friendly. When it does catch something, a small window does pop up. It just notifies, it doesn't scream and yell like some of the AV programs.
