I would say your are taking off from the taxi way and not the runway.

I don't think anyone would yank your FlightSim pilot's ticket for that!

Remember when Meigs Field was ripped up in the middle of the night by the City of Chicago? The pilots who still had planes parked there had no choice but to take off from the taxiway!

Taking off from a taxiway can't be the problem. Tell them it isn't your fault they put the wrong signs there. Stealing a Canadian jet in broad daylight can be a problem, only when it's noticed btw. Tell them Dave made you do it and you can walk away without any problem. That's how I do it all the time
