Hi,
No smack talk in this thread!
Hi,
No smack talk in this thread!
well said, Viper
Well said. We owe it to ourselves and the community to be as inviting as possible. There are plenty of forums out there that are miserably tied up in 'good old boys' and their arrogance. may have almost 3,000 posts here, but there is no 'rank' system so to speak. No one here is better than anyone else. We can all rest assured that the forum's 'ban' function works just as well on those with 1,000,000 posts as it does on those with 1.
I think what he is probably referring to is files that tell you they are intended as addons for payware programs. I know Ive been disappointed at times to find after reading the description, you must have "this program" or "this file" in order to use it.
One minute ago, 149,823 files in the library. Yeah, sure, some are shareware. So what!It is really annoying that Flightsim.com allows these files in their library. I thought the site was for sharing free, files amongst Sim enthusiasts, not to promote those making money from the hobby.
Use the scroll bar to bypass what isn't your cup of tea. Nobody is holding a gun to your head.
There are people who do want what is offered as trialware or shareware.
This site is for flightsimming in general. It is not for the freebie monger, alone...Don
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
Just to clear up some misconceptions, what I run here at FlightSim.Com is a file library, not a freeware library. Any file that is flight simulation or aviation related is accepted, assuming it's legal and safe (i.e., free of malware). There's nothing there that "slipped through".
My job as file librarian is to present the files to you in as clear and useful a manner as possible. I don't judge the files, rather I try and present the information necessary for you to judge them for yourself. So, if a file is a demo, shareware, requires other software to use, etc. it is labeled as such.
You don't really want someone else like me deciding what files are OK for you and what are not do you? I would think you would prefer to decide for yourself.
The original poster sounds just like the guy I commented on in my recent blog entry...
I agree with Nels;we are all semi-mature here. We don't need somebody deciding what files are okay for us to download and what files aren't or whether "repaint.xx" is a good looking repaint and we would like to download, thats up to US. We don't need a babysitter.

Good point Nels.
I don't see anything wrong with shareware put on here. People want something for their work, that's fine by me. I see where things take alot of time that people put into it, and it's okay.
Like you said, it's a file library, not dedicated to freeware.
it was his first post, and think he just wanted to make a statement......picked the wrong way to do so....
